First Night Back
Well my first day back wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I did have to make a huge effort to actually get out of the truck and walk in the door, but I did it. People were genuinely glad to see me, which actually kind of surprised me.
The night went really well on my side; most of my folks were done by first break and I sent them over to help on the other side. The rest of my folks (except for one department that takes a lot of detailing) were done at lunch and went over afterwards.
The other side was a complete Charlie Fox and I don’t know why. He had every stocker except for two of them over there and we were still doing touch ups after they should have been through. I really do think he spends too much time “doing” and not enough time supervising. He really should be past that by now. It only took one good smack in the face for me to get it.
Then the big boss got there. Oh My God. From the moment she pulled into the parking lot she was on the radio non-stop and I could actually feel my anxiety level shooting up. It felt like I was on the verge of a panic attack and she hadn’t even addressed me directly. She was however shouting orders and asking questions and demanding answers and NEVER STOPPED TRANSMITTING FOR US TO ANSWER HER! These are simple little Motorola job site walkies. They’re half-duplex, like most walkies are. Which means that only ONE PERSON CAN TALK AT A TIME! And then she gets pissed when another manager finally manages to break in and points that out. I just don’t understand.
We only had to stay an hour late today, but that’s only because we had a manager that’s between her level and my level working overnight with us and he pretty much said, we’re going now is there anything you want to ask us first? at twenty after and then we got everything settled and ran for the hills.
My contacts are all screwy. The right one keeps getting grungy before the left one does and it makes it hard to see. I need to get some drops or something I guess. And I’ll use the über-cleaner on them while I’m sleeping.
That’s it, I’m crashing now. Night!
