Fire on the Mountain
And yes, I mean this mountain…
Critter actually got out of work on time tonight, oddly enough, but on the only road between here and her there’s a fire or something. She said the fire trucks keep running back and forth between the roadblock and the gas station she passes on the way out here. We both figure they’re loading up with water and ferrying it back since there are no high pressure mains out this way to support fire hydrants. There have been times when, because of water concerns, the fire department has focused more on containment than extinguishing fires because they couldn’t get water up there fast enough to anything more than keep it from spreading.
So, I called work and let them know I’d be late, since the only other way around the fire to me is to go through Chattanooga, TN, a four-hour detour. Critter actually suggested I leave the kids and tell them they’d better behave or after she got done with them she’d give them to me to deal with, but I told her no, but thanks. D is only eight, and he normally acts like he’s about five, so no.
Just got word that she’s on her way, she was only delayed by about thirty minutes. I’m not sure if I’ll tell work yet or not…
