Coolness! (Techno Babble)

OK, most of my entertainment center input problem has been solved. I’ve discovered that TiVo makes a combo unit that will work with my cable provider and I’m going to use the PS/3 as my primary Blu-ray player for now. Using the receiver I want that will leave me with just enough S-video and Optical Audio inputs I need, but I may have to dump the VHS, I’m not sure. I just hate not having it available, but honestly I don’t think I’ve used it more than twice in the past six months, and that was to transfer something from the TiVo to free up space on it which I could do with a DVD-R that could share it’s I/O slot with the DVD player.

Done now. The technology impared may continue reading with the next entry (when it happens).

I read that you really like TiVo – have you looked at MythTV? (http://www.mythtv.org/) In particular, Mythbuntu (http://www.mythbuntu.org/)? Just thought I’d mention it 🙂

You’re so cool!

RYN: I have no idea if the MythTV folks have looked at DLNA certification. I would say probably not since the DLNA folks seem to be geared more towards hardware than software and MythTV is purely software. The only part of their software that might have anything to do with DLNA would be the part that lets you use digital media on a different client than the server. Also, MythTV is open source -I seriously doubt that it would mesh well with anything many of the current DLNA members (Macrovision, Microsoft and Sony for instance) manufacture. I’ve found MythTV to be pretty stable. I’ve been using it now for a few years. In the beginning it was quite a job getting it all set up and working but now with Mythbuntu it’s very easy. For a much more ambitious (and younger) project you might want to look at LinuxMCE (http://www.linuxmce.org/) – especially look at the videos, they’re awesome!

a blade would work for me!!!! I would slaughter someone over my baby’s!!!!!
