Bad Week

Last night was a mad scramble to get things done. We had ten people to do work that normally takes a minimum of fifteen, and more realistically twenty. We got all the high volume stuff done (food, shampoo/soap, OTC meds, cleaners, and paper goods) and the other stuff all got turned except for toys and office supplies. Those two department managers were a little cranky when they got in but they understood when they found out how short we were.

The two prior evenings were total nightmares though. We had (barely) enough people and there were some things I left for days to take care of even though it would normally be our jobs, such as putting up everything that came in from the returns desk overnight. Of course, the past two nights no one from days or second shift had bothered picking any of their returns up so we had it all to sort and put up and I thought putting new freight out on the shelves was more important. I was wrong. Tuesday I was made to stay until I had personally placed every returned item on the shelves where they belonged. My manager told me not to have someone else do it for me, and then had a meeting with the department managers telling them not to do it, I was supposed to.

She showed up two hours early Tuesday morning, she admitted she was two hours early, she said she knew we weren’t done, but……

The next four hours were an absolute living hell. And to top it all off, the reason she was in such a pissy mood had nothing whatsoever to do with the condition the store was in (which was actually pretty good two hours after she got there, coincidentally) and had a lot to do with a lack of cranberry juice in the office fridge. She as much as said it to me. And yet she went all psycho nutters on me for four hours about things that I would have gotten to before I left anyway if she’d just LEFT ME ALONE TO DO THEM!

Sometimes she really drives me nuts about stupid things.

Fifty-one weeks and counting.
