Almost a good day, sort of

Well, didn’t get my expense check today, no surprise there. I’ll allegedly get it first thing in the morning, but I’m not holding my breath.

We started out having a pretty good day. I took a team of three people over to the department we had to do the detail work on and we got it done before lunch. After lunch we went to help one of the other managers, and that’s when things went south in a hurry.

It seems that the fixture we were using (the store’s original fixture, in use since the Grand Opening) had been put together wrong when it was first installed. The project manager over the remodel noticed, and they had to take it apart and start over again. Never mind that it was still structurally sound, never mind that the only change was cosmetic, and never mind that it had been “wrong” for eight or so years with no dire consequences befalling anyone, we had to wait for the right parts to be found and sent over, which meant that instead of helping to stock product on shelves, my team had to help rebuild the fixture. That was half a day’s work lost waiting on those stupid parts that really didn’t need to be changed. We still managed to throw ten pallets worth of freight up, but we left twenty pallets in the back that should have gone up too.

I really hope we can recover from this, because if we go to six-day weeks I may not be able to come home at all, and that would suck big time.
