Advice on snow chains needed! [EDIT]

[EDIT]

I decided to go with option two, based on people that have used them and the reviews on Amazon.com. Most of the favorable reviews were from people using them on gravel/dirt roads like I need to. Thanks for the notes everyone!

[ORIGINAL ENTRY]
Alright, here’s the skinny: I need some snow chains. All of my friends IRL and most of my family are from the southeast and know little or nothing about them and hence are unable to advise on the best type. I have two options available, and was wondering if anyone here had experience with snow chains and could advise.

In case it matters, I drive a 1999 Ford Expedition, rear-wheel drive, 5.4L V8 with passenger rated tires. P255/70R16 if it matters. Both these styles come in sizes to fit, I just don’t know which is better.

Here are the pics, stolen flagrantly from Amazon.com and used completely without permission. They will be removed at the first sternly worded e-mail I receive from Dewy, Cheatham, and Howe….

Option #1:                                    Option #2:

I’m leaning toward option one, it seems to put more chain on the road at any one time and the connections seem less complicated, but that’s just the common sense physics in me coming out. Any advice born of experience (personal or second hand, it doesn’t matter) would be appreciated!

I am from upstate NY where it snows like mad but have been living in Florida for 19 years, and I’m also a girl, so sorry I can’t help you! Good luck…..
