Closing in on prom
As I mentioned over in the Watcher’s diary, the school year here ends in late June, so graduation and prom dates are different from the US. My daughter’s prom is tomorrow night. She and her b/f broke up about a month ago (thank you, God!) and she wasn’t going to go to prom, so all preparations came to a screeching halt. Then she decided that she really didn’t want to miss out on this, and asked a friend of hers to take her. He said he would, and all of a sudden the plans were back on again, only speeded up. A friend of hers lent her a dress that was too big in the bodice, but otherwise perfect. Sweetheart neckline, corset back with pretty wide ribbons, big poofy skirt with two layers of crinoline as well as the slip layer and the outer skirt layer. It’s a beautiful princess type dress, and yes, I’ll be posting pics.
So, Saturday, we called the lady across the street who does alterations and asked if she had time to do a prom dress. She said to bring it over, so we did, and she pinned and fussed and long story short, the dress is ready. We went shopping for shoes and found the perfect pair for $14 at Suzy Shier–so pretty–and then found an inexpensive clutch purse to go with the shoes. Monday, we took the date to rent his tux, and were able to match the tie and pocket square to the dress colour. He’s tall and handsome and is going to look striking in his tux. Bailey is tiny and gorgeous and will be wearing 4" heels, which will help the height discrepancy. They will be beautiful together.
Unfortunately, we hadn’t been able to order a corsage, since we were past the order cutoff time. So, today, when A and I went golfing, we saw a rose bush near the second green with flowers on it that seemed to be the same shade of vivid pink as the dress. I asked the owner if I could have some, and he said I could and gave me clippers. I took some full blooms, some buds and a smaller bloom. When I stopped at the dress lady on the way home, she looked at the flowers and said, "She needs a corsage." I said that I had never made one. She said she had and that she used to work in a flower shop. Off to the dollar store to get florist wire and tape, and the corsage is being made tomorrow (prom is tomorrow). And the flowers are the EXACT shade of pink as the dress. When God decides to provide, He doesn’t go half way. I can’t believe how this is all coming together. I can’t wait for Miss B to see them.
She did a test run of her hairdo and that worked. A paid to have her nails done at the salon down the street, and they look lovely. Everything seems to be on track. I’m so delighted for her and I hope that the evening is all she hopes it will be. Her date is one of her good friends, and a very nice young man–one of the guys she couldn’t talk to or spend time with when she was with the b/f, who was crazy jealous of her guy friends.
I’ll be posting pictures!!!

That’s great about the corsage and hers will be unique instead of looking like the others straight from a flower shop.
