Sara Moon

For as long as I can remember my mother has had this print… "Belinda" by Sara Moon. Indeed it’s been as long as I can remember because apparently it was given to them [Mum & Dad] as an engagement present, many years before I was born. As a child it was always there, and as far as I was concerned it was boring. When I walked into my parents place the other day, it struck me that it wasn’t there? So I went upstairs and queried it. Mum pointed to her bedroom wall, and sure enough there it was.

I had a good look at it; you know how you see something so much it just becomes part of the back ground, knowing its there but never paying attention? Well I actually had a look at it this time, a really good look – and I love it. It’s so beautiful and soft and if I may say so; glamorous. Having never heard of or seen anything else done by this particular artist, I thought I will look her up on the internet when I get to work.

So apparently finding information on Sara Moon, is not easy. There are plenty of web sites dedicated to this person’s lovely work, but no one has any hard trace evidence!

And I quote:

“Sara Moon has become something of a mystery. For around ten years, commencing in the mid-nineteen seventies, works such as those below were to be found framed in furniture stores, racked in poster stores and in many greetings card outlets… Then, suddenly, nothing. But not just nothing. Sara Moon appeared to disappear off the face of the earth! … Her worked moved from Red Baron in… to Verkerke… and then disappeared. Red Baron no longer exists and Verkerke just do not want to talk about the matter at all…”

Searching a few more sites, I find out the artist Sara Moon is in-fact a man. He lives in Germany and is still alive, but it appears that whom ever has come into contact with him, or who have dealt with him in the past are sworn to secrecy. Anyone and everyone refuse to discuss him. Letters & email sent by fanatics, groups and alike, are all left unanswered.

But of course this is all conjecture and well makes (In my mind) her/his work more appealing.

So I ordered 5 more prints of the internet, at the cost of several hundred dollars, and eagerly await their delivery. J

This is "Belinda" the one that my mother has had for oh so many years. &

"Elaine", "Gina", "Moshgan" & "Sara" are the ones I’ve purchased.

LOL – he is probably some herion junkie with a history of pedaphilia – that is why he is unknown – as for the name, it suggest he may be transgendered? Perhaps going under the knife, hence keeping is male identity secret! I think i have made myself clear… hehehehe 🙂 x
