Word of the Day for 10-8-6

Extremophile – an organism, usually unicellular, which thrives in or requires ‘extreme’ conditions that would exceed optimal conditions for growth and reproduction in the majority of mesophilic terrestrial organisms.

This convinces me that scientists have a sense of humor. You know the conversation when they discovered these organisms.

“Man. These cells survived under harsh conditions.”

“Harsh? They were EXTREME conditions!”

“Definitely EXTREME. It’s as if they like being EXTREME.”

“It’s like they’re EXTREMOPHILIC.”

“HAR HAR HAR.”

“HAR HAR HAR.”

If you’ll permit me my punch line, mesophilic characteristics aside, I’m rather extremophobic.
