This is not a love entry.

Considering the fact that I’m heartbroken, I thought it might be appropriate to spend some money on myself. Admitedly, I’m not female. Meaning, I already knew what I was going to buy before I even started the van. This, as opposed to the stereotypical female tendency to “browse”. Though, I suppose I like to browse at things as well. Just different things. When I go out to browse, it’s clearly thus.

I wanted two CD’s. Somehow, the release of RAMMS+EIN’s new album slipped under my radar until Cliff and Dan told me about it. And. As a result of listening to too much radio, I’ve had interest in Franz Ferdinand. I feel sorry for people who don’t even know who the band is named after. I was delighted that I got both CD’s for $14 each, as opposed to $20. I mean, seriously. The RAMMS+EIN DVD that Dan got me cost around $14. (Or so he claimed.)

I bothered to babblefish the title of that DVD last night. That long-ass word translated to “Cinema”. How fitting.

Then, since I was in the mall, I wandered over to Frederick’s of Hollywood. Well. On my wandering, I noticed a Dippin` Dots. Um. Talk about proliferation of a hyped product. I remember seeing them at theme parks. But now in malls? Talk about turning the “Ice Cream of the Future” into a self-fulfilling prophecy. I like that stuff when it’s a novelty, but I’m not sure I want to make a habit of eating it.

I remember the first time I went to Frederick’s of Hollywood. Yeah, I was nervous. Now I waltz in and when they ask how I am, I ask whether they have any sales. *smirks* They rotate their stock, so I know when to come in. There’s really no point for me buying things there at full price. They typically have a thong/g-string offer of 3 for $19. Or something. I noticed they didn’t have any g-strings today. Instead, they brought in some cotton thongs. About damn time. Unfortunately, as it was clearance, most of the stock was XL. I just can’t fill a thong that size. : P

I saw two red cotton thongs and got both of them. Red’s my color, what can I say? To fill in the third slot, I got another silk thong, this time in purple. Buying undies makes me happy. I saw some super soft silk boxers there, two for $29. But um. I haven’t the cash to throw around. Perhaps another time. Moreover, that’s the kind of boxer you’d want to show off with a significant other.

So.

Given that the RAMMS+EIN album won’t sux0r, I listened to Franz Ferdinand first. It’s pretty much what I’ve read about it. Exceedingly unique sound. An almost disco beat, if you pay attention. Catchy, at times. I have a feeling it’ll be an album that I’ll listen to now, put away, then rediscover at a later date. I’m delighted that these Scots can play guitar. Any songs where you can actually hear the chords have my respect. They sound like a soundtrack to an indie movie. Though, maybe that’s just the european in them.

Which brings me to RAMMS+EIN. Cliff told me it isn’t all that good, and is filled with ballads. Um. I’m not sure what album he was listening to, but I like Reise, Reise. The album’s sound seems somewhat sinister. The songs build and build off each other, the way I felt when I listened to Mutter the first time. I was reminded of White Zombie while listening to the album, which isn’t a bad thing. The good thing about RAMMS+EIN is that all their albums have a different sound, yet when you listen, it’s clearly RAMMS+EIN.

My first favorite off the album is “Los”. A mean acoustic carries the song as complexity rises and falls. I’d swear I heard a harmonica in there. As for the publically known “Amerika”, you have to see the english translation to appreciate it. Which I happen to have. I don’t speak German, but I know how to find translations online. : )

    Refrain:

    We’re all living in America,
    America is wunderbar.
    We’re all living in America,
    Amerika, Amerika.

When I’m dancing, I want to lead,
even if you all are spinning alone,
    let’s exercise a little control.
I’ll show you how it’s done right.
We form a nice round (circle),
freedom is playing on all the fiddles,
music is coming out of the White House,
and near Paris stands Mickey Mouse.

    We’re all living in America…

I know steps that are very useful,
and I’ll protect you from missteps,
and anyone who doesn’t want to dance in the end,
just doesn’t know that he has to dance!
We form a nice round (circle),
I’ll show you the right direction,
    to Africa goes Santa Claus,
and near Paris stands Mickey Mouse.

    We’re all living in America,
    America is wunderbar.
    We’re all living in America,
    Amerika, Amerika.
    We’re all living in America,
    Coca-Cola, Wonderbra,
    We’re all living in America,
    Amerika, Amerika.

This is not a love song,
this is not a love song.
I don’t sing my mother tongue,
No, this is not a love song.

    We’re all living in America,
    Amerika is wunderbar.
    We’re all living in America,
    Amerika, Amerika.
    We’re all living in America,
    Coca-Cola, sometimes WAR,
    We’re all living in America,
    Amerika, Amerika.

So um.

I’m content with my support of the American economy?

Hmm. I think that’s all for now. If anything else comes to mind, I’ll be back. I always am.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Franz Ferdinand album. It’s not really my type of thing, I tend to be more into… less dance-y stuff (think Against Me! and the Pixies), but an indie club I go to a lot plays them, so I thought I would check it out.

i don’t know how you can do it.i can’t even walk NEAR a victoria’s secret or fredrick’s without feeling weirded out.i can’t even say the word “panties” without felling a little dirty.not that dirty is bad, but that kind of femininity is taboo to me or something.i don’t know. i guess i’m just that kind of girl.

Los was my favorite, as well. Amerika is rather funny, and Till speaking Russian is amusing, but I didn’t really like the overall sound of Reise, Reise. They just seem to be all over the place. I only like a couple songs.

When I went to the King of Prussia mall, Fredricks of Hollywood was the first place I went.I love shopping for undergarments. I own more underwear that I know what to do with… Yet I don’t wear undies.I love to browse. I’m half browser. On my mothers side.HA.I want the new Rammstein CD.OK I’m done.

I heart purple.

So here’s the thing about Rammstein. They’re crazy. 😉 Everytime I hear Du Hast, I start “singing” it. I walk around, saying “du… du hast” over and over again. My mom, understandbly, looks at me like I’ve just escaped from the insane asylum. *shrug*

November 18, 2004

Wait. Wait. Thongs? …

They sell stuff for men in there, too? I’ve never actually been in a Fredrick’s, myself.

November 18, 2004

ryn: …No I didn’t actually. I took Photoshop classes in high school.

November 18, 2004

ryn: Yeah. In my classes, I’d do the tutorials in five minutes, and move on to my own experimenting. 🙂

November 18, 2004

Huh. Who woulda thought. 😉

I haven’t had Dippin’ Dots since they vacated their stand at the Staten Island Mall, years ago. Come to think of it, it’s been more than a year since I’ve shopped in that concrete edifice dedicated to consumerism. hrm.

I just bought the new Rammstein myself. I’ve seen, and translated, Amerika before the cd hit the shelves. On my first set of listen throughs, “Reise, Reise”, “Los”, “Amerika”, and “Moskau” caught my ear. Still so much other music to buy though, but that never changes.

Thankyou thankyou thankyou! LOL I’ve been listening to Amerika for a few weeks and was wondering what the german bit was all about!! I actually hum the chorus in my car sometimes! LMAO And I like Franz Ferdinand too … although I’ve only listened to one song who’s title escapes me at this moment! You’re avoiding my picher questions – I got it – no more asking! LOL *snuggles*

Buying undies also makes me happy. My habit borders on addiction.

November 18, 2004

Screw Ramms+ein, go for FALCO.

LOL Yes we’ve emailed … it’s nhouareau@hotmail.com I used to have a different name here but I changed it to this one. I can’t remember what it was though!

🙂 You look so much younger with short hair!!! You’re still bootylicious though!!

It’s REALLY REALLY easy to password protect your network. I figure anyone idiotic enough not to put a simple password on their network deserves to be siphoned. Is that picture of Clinton from when Dubya was talking at his library dedication? IS IT? ‘Cause that’s the look he had, and I busted out laughing when I saw it on the news. Priceless.

November 19, 2004

God I love Franz Ferdinand. The singer sounds like some…suave european guy that I would totally f*ck and get screwed over by…and I LOVE it!!

November 19, 2004

I adore all of Rammstein’s songs. I’m planning to get the new CD soonish. I still have to get the DVD (cd?) you mentioned in my notes. Is the new CD good? I already love Mien Teil more than Amerika. I should also try the Ferdinand CD. 😀 and Yay for undie shopping! lol

I bought my Franz Ferdinand album ages ago. I’m glad people know who I’m talking about now. Whee.
