…Recommend Music? Ha ha.

I hate when people ask for music to download. We all love saying, “I love all music!” but please, that just isn’t true for anybody. We all have preferences, and I hate when I listen to music and I just don’t like it.

So hows about I make an entry out of this?

I suppose it’s a bad idea to ask for metal. Metal is just about deal these days. The sound has moved on and turned into something else entirely. System of a Down is the hardest (noticable) band these days, and they’re not metal in the least.

I think Led Zeppelin is the height of music. Nobody ever sounded like them, and nobody will ever sound like them again. Any other acoustic just sounds mildly inferior in comparison to their feel.

My favorite band remains Metallica. No snickering. I’ve dabbled in Megadeth, but it doesn’t draw me in the same way. If I need a Megadeth fix, I listen to Breadline, Countdown to Extinction, Symphony of Destruction, or Trust.

I miss screaming guitar solos. Few people can really play guitar anymore. This is no diss against Tom Morello, but the art of guitar solos died when Guns`n`Roses stopped making good records. All you get out of bands these days are two-second twangs, usually sounding similar to the primary chords.

No wait, hold that metal comment. RAMMS+EIN rox0rs. Crunch, crunch.

Underworld and Fatboy Slim remain the majority of my techno collection. I’m not sure who else to seek out.

I want to like rap. I know most of Rapper’s Delight, and I couldn’t escape Notorious BIG or Dr. Dre (or Puff Daddy for that matter) in 8th grade. Go here. Click breakbeat, then hip-hop, then number five. That’s rap I like. Yet if you search for anything else by these people, it all sucks hard. Click East Coast, number four. I don’t care who you are, “Mama Said Knock You Out” is a good song. Except no other LL Cool J song has appealed to me.

And License To Ill is a metal album, sorry.

If you want to hear the exact opposite of good rap, go down to Crunk, number six. That is what’s wrong with kids these days.

Go over to house, and House Disco. (Dub -> Classic – > Deep -> Funky -> Disco House) Number five. That’s good silly music. It also sounds a lot like My Feeling. (Number seven.)

Transverse over to “Happy” (over in the yellow). Number three. That is techno gone wrong. (Especially with it on repeat.)

..Wait, what the hell was my point?

I like Modest Mouse. I do not like Linkin Park. I like Hanson. I like Pearl Jam. I do not like these silly bands that pass as “punk” these days. Which really is just pop to me. Punk is a doctrine whereby one disobeys authority, not one where guys look like sissies.

Yes, I’m calling them sissies. This from a guy that likes 80’s hair.

I don’t know, it’s like I’m always behind the times, not liking whatever’s up front. So there’s probably something I’m missing. Radio sucks, unless it’s a station that plays AC/DC and Led Zeppelin in heavy rotation, and occasionally some Metallica. And maybe some CCR. Asking for bands to have CCR-quality is like asking bands to actually have talent. *laughs*

I’m listening to No Diggity. *laughs* This is so 90’s. Current rap is the downfall of the black community. *rolls eyes*

:: changes song :: Hey, I didn’t say I liked it that much.

People using music as an identity. But I suppose I do the same thing by saying I have none. Everybody acting like their own music is some niche, some assortment that nobody else has.

*shrugs*

ABBA, AC/DC, Audioslave, Beethoven, CCR, Fastball, Fatboy Slim, Franz Ferdinand, Hanson, KC & The Sunshine Band, KoRn, Led Zeppelin, Limp Bizkit, Live, Metallica, Modest Mouse, Monster Magnet, Nirvana, NSync, Pearl Jam, Queen, Rage Against the Machine, Rob Zombie, System of a Down, Tom Petty, Steve Miller, Underworld, Van Halen, White Zombie…

What’s your secret stash? What do you listen to that you feel like nobody else would listen to? Hell, what so-called popular music are you afraid to admit you like?

I like some of that stuff. But some of my tastes are sooo blandly mainstream. I suck, I know.

well those girls on the OD boards clued me in to reggaeton. I really really really like it (for today at least). I have no idea whether you would though.

Metal for you (albums): Dragonforce “Valley of the Damned,” Gorguts “Obscura,” Massacara “Final Holocaust,” Wormed “Planisphereum,” Rebreather “Half Speed Ahead,” Mastodon “Leviathan,” Nightwish “Once.” Anyone who declares a genre of music as dead doesn’t listen to it closely enough. As far as I know, I’m the only person who can say “I listen to everything” and mean it.

Dragonforce = bitchin’ guitar solos. If you don’t like them, you have no soul.

i’m so downloading mama said knock you out now. thanks for that.

I heard 90’s music and I didn’t really like it. I’m one of those people that don’t like all music. I like punk, rock, emo and metal. I hate rap, hip-hop, pop and that kind of stuff. I hate when people ask me for music because they just get mad when they don’t like what I have.

I am Officially Old so I have a license to NOT listen to popular music… I like classical music with Mozart being the top of my hit parade these days. I also like Celtic music, folk music and stuff I can dance to {says she, cackling and waving her stick and staggering off into the sunset…}BWAH-ha-ha-ha!

I’m so burned out on CCR it’s not even funny. Every single classic rock station back in VA played at least fifty CCR songs a day. I mean, yeah, they’re great, but DAMN. Led Zeppelin = gods. Pink Floyd = also gods. I’m getting more into “mellow” folk/rock lately: Jack Johnson, Rufus Wainwright, Elliot Smith, and My Morning Jacket. You should defnitely give MMJ a try. His voice gives me chills

March 20, 2006

And would I be terrible to snicker at you for liking Hanson? I was totally obsessed with them when I was in middle school. Saw them live my 14th birthday. I haven’t heard their new album, is it good?

March 20, 2006

I agree with the LL reference…he just hits the rhythm and rhymes perfect in that song. Reccs: Napalm Death ‘Enemy of the Music Business’, Social Distortion ‘Sex Drugs Rock & Roll’ –I think that is the title, I have an unmarked burned copy of it 😉 I gotta tell you, I was JUST thinking of a music askance from people. But you actually post, so you win!

Menudo.

Oh, and Andrea Bocelli.

Barry Manilow, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Michael O’Brien (most favoritest evar!), Apoptygma Berzerk (techno), Björk, Rascal + Klone (techno), Queen, Yanni… I don’t really have a particular sound. Anything with piano or a string orchestra gets me.

I just like the fact that you listed your favs in almost completely alphabetical order. And just so you know, listening to Pink Floyd while trying to go to sleep is a bad idea. I ended up in a fit of giggles instead of asleep. *Shrug*

RYN: Only if you consider MoP some sort of landmark (which it really isn’t when considered among the pantheon of metal that came before it, about the same time of it’s release, and not too long afterward).

Good techno = A Guy Called Gerald, Ayria, Boards of Canada.

RYN: The Used, Greenday, My Chemical Romance, etc. I actually don’t like System Of A Down.

March 20, 2006

eh, I can never name my fave bands. I like so many, but it depends on my mood. I am somewhat embarrassed, though, that I do enjoy Mariah Carey’s couple of newest singles and I did buy Britney Spear’s album Toxic lmao

March 20, 2006

Uhm… Rob Dougan, E.S. Posthumus, CAKE, Gogol Bordello, OK Go, daft punk… You know, I could send you any of the above if you asked me to.

March 20, 2006

Silly Timmy. Blackstreet is R&B, not rap. What the. *shakes her head* Meanwhile I’ve learned not to offer you anything musically. You’re too ‘noseuppyintheair’ about it all, or should I say, persnickety. I think I gave up half a year ago. *laughs* Mind you, that’s fine. I care nothing about people who have their own musical standard. I just get irked when they bitch about mine.

March 20, 2006

For example. I love a lot of “cheese,” as I refer to it…merely because it’s cheese. It’s like with B movies. I don’t think all movies have to be Oscar standard to be good. If it resonates, it resonates. And I’m out.

RYN: Well, different people, different opinions. *hugs*

March 20, 2006

Ryn: Funny enough, no. But I love me some Hall and Oates.

March 20, 2006

yay for hanson! …I’ve been on a techno/trance streak latley. That and Garbage.

What DO you consider Green Day?

I love Choral music. I sang choir for four years and I’m embarrased to admit that I’ll hunt for it on this one radio station… I’m such a dork.

March 20, 2006

Everyone makes fun of me… …but in addition to my classic rock roots and my stoner days staples… I own a heck of a lot of contemporary Christian music. I love it. It keeps me “on the right track”, so to speak, during the week. I also dig piano music. George Winston is probably my fave…he did a bitchin’ cd covering song by The Doors. And the Linus and Lucy cd he did! I’m gay.

March 20, 2006

I’m a big Marillion fan. Especially since the lead singer changed 🙂 They’re a band that people don’t realise are still going, or just tend to associate with the song Kayleigh.

No Diggity!!! haha I remember that one! You’d hate my music. People that are into the stuff you’re into say that mine is too calm and boring. Perhaps I just find it emotional and can appreciate the musicality of it. I’ve got a musician’s ear, for sure….

March 21, 2006

Hola, Sir Timmy. 🙂 Long time no see, mayne! But to go along with your entry…. have you ever heard of Hed PE?

March 21, 2006

ryn: Ever get a chance… DL their song, “Wake Up.” You might like it.. and you might outright bloody hate it. lol

I came of age listening to Yes, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Styx, Todd Rundgren, Jethro Tull. I have all the CDs of Klaatu. Recently bought the Scissor Sisters CD…love that, very Elton-Johnish…I think I read about them on darlingnikki’s diary. My secret stash? Ohio Players, The Jackson Five (before surgery), The Osmonds, Debbie Gibson, Level 42.

P.S. I still love Madonna and bought her newest CD, kind of disappointed. I listen to a lot of classical music (the CDs like Back for Breakfast, Mozart in the Morning, etc., have sh*tload of different kinds for different times of day, even Bach for Barbequeing). Recently bought some Louis Armstrong, and even some authentic Cajun music. Now I want some Al Hirt (Dixieland Jazz).

P.P.S. More secret stash: KC and the Sunshine Band, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Diana Ross and the Supremes. Just about any disco; I loved disco when loving disco got you geek status for life. More: Judas Priest (Stained Class is GREAT), some KISS, Blue Oyster Cult, ACDC is a MUST, some Alice Cooper. I love the Judds and Wynnona.
