Rap = Disco.
I had a thought, but I may be too lazy to write it out. I find the integrals of music to be very fascinating in the way things rise and fall. Whatever is popular at the time will ultimately become what the next wave rallies against. As such, the rise of rap will fall the same way disco and hair metal did.
I don’t fall into the camp that things all things rap-related are bad. I dig Rapper’s Delight. You can’t argue that some of Biggie’s tunes were pretty catchy. But the crap that kids are considering music is atrocious. Whatever happened to the hoards of people who hated rap?
Maybe I’m upset because metal is dead. Well, not dead. It’s underground, which in some ways was the only way it thrived and was successful. I listen to only one radio station, because the rest are absolute crap. 105.5, DHA. And I have to say that new music just doesn’t inspire me. It’s crap.
Disco, hair bands, and rap have three things in common. One, there’s a catchy beat. Two, there’s no viable lyrics. You know damn well all that mattered in an arena rock song was the refrain and one or two chords. Okay, I can’t think of a third offhand.
I don’t know, I’m just kind of wondering when the bubble will burst, and something will transcend rap. Seriously, is that the best you can do? Give me something with some soul, some substance, not the flavor of the week. Hell, I’d be happier if disco rose again. I reckon I dig those funky beats.
And give me some guitar solos, damn it. We’ve had Jimi Hendrix. We’ve had Eddie Van Halen. We’ve had Slash. Can anybody play guitar anymore?
I dunno, man. Rap seems to be resilient. Although it’s annoying how they seem to cop old classic rock riffs and adopt them for their own lame songs. And the teenyboppers listening probably have no clue. It makes me sick to my stomach. I love metal and classic rock. In my world they’ll never die.

can anyone play guitar? obviously you haven’t heard of Emppu Vuoranen, or Jani Liimatainen. or Children of Bodom. underground metal? i can’t believe what i’m hearing. dark tranquillity anyone? sure, they don’t get air play, but they’re HUGE! and i hardly ever have to explain to people who Nightwish are anymore. so… what planet, exactly, is new jersey on?! :oP maybe i am just so immersed in metal that i don’t really notice that it’s not as popular as pop music. it’s definitely good that my foreign favorites are still playing the small US venues. as for rap, i really don’t think it’s going to collapse like hair metal. i think a lot of african americans consider it “their” music. and they’re clinging to it like rainbow platforms.

still on the topic of guitarists, do you listen to Opeth? or Insomnium?

I have no clue about Rocky IV. My butt is small but still round! I work it out a lot. I don’t think dresses are for chicks trying too hard…I mean, I’m not trying to get a date- or laid- I already have those things at home. I just want to look and feel pretty and wearing a dress is always fun! I have my sweat-pant days, plenty of those. Dresses are just a nice change…variety!

ryn: Shut up. You know that’s not how it is with your situation. I love you, Timmy.

RYN: Yeah, I agree. I was a bit apprehensive when he became pope, but he has been much better than I expected. And I can’t say I entirely disagree with his position on the dangers of an all-consuming secularism.

With my cooter (lol I like that word) I usually just trim things up a bit. Going bald really isn’t for me, although sometimes, occasionally, I do. I usually always wear underpants because I am naturally wet and if I don’t my clothing gets mussed. I can’t believe it’s been 29 months. Goodness, you need a cushiony, hairy lady that likes abortion-talk. =)

*does the hustle on roller skates* disco!

Metal is underground? Hrm. Wait, that may explain why NONE of my friends have heard of any of the stuff I listen to. I just figured my friends were narrow-minded about metal. Here’s a potential third, for your disco/hair bands/rap trio… All three are genres that no-one REALLY wants to admit listening to, but everyone does. Or something. I don’t know, I just got home from work, it’s 10pm, youcan’t expect me to brain. 😛

ryn: I haven’t listened to the radio since I was 15. So I suppose I have no idea what’s underground and what’s not. DragonForce make me giggle. Not sure why. As for why Aussies are so cool… I have no idea, but we’re boner-inducing, which is reason enough for me. Now onwards, to your next two entries. Hurrah! I probably shouldn’t be noting; it’s 10:35am and I just got my lazy arse out of bed. Mydaughter and her cat were mauling me. Happy Wednesday to me!
