My back.
Mike told me something that made me feel completely loved and appreciated. Scott was telling him how our service time scores were lower than usual last Saturday. (A good thing. All orders that end up on line are timed for how long they’re up on the screen.) So Mike said to him how it was because I was on line.
I remember my first couple months, Mike would keep his mouth shut about my oddities and simply smile. And now.. I appreciate so much him, and the rest of my managers, for sticking up for me.
Today was much busier than last Tuesday. Wow. We had a line to the door for almost an hour and a half during lunch. Okay, there was maybe one lull in there where we cleared all the customers. But at one point, the line actually hit the door. There’s a curious thing to this. Our sandwich line was cranking out customers faster than we cashiers could ring them. Which is a good thing. One line to stand in, as opposed to two. Our morning line crew is god, I tell you. They’re the reason our average service time scores are so low. It’s my understanding that Sonia/Gladys/Rolando/Nelson have worked there forever. *smiles* You can’t fight our hispanic power!
After my shift was over, I was hitting the soda fountain one last time. I heard somebody calling my name and was disoriented by a female running towards me. I had to put down my drink so Liz could hug me. Apparently, Erik, Ashley, Dan, and Liz decided to track me down. I know it was only a matter of time; keep to myself long enough and they’ll decide they miss me.
I’ve missed them, too.
Something occurred to me while I was talking to Liz. Our jobs suck ass if all we’re doing is register. I mean just standing there. I was pretty perky through lunch rush. But dinner rush people fucking suck ass. Anyway, it hits me. What will I be doing if I’m a manager? I’ll be supporting everybody. I’ll be running around doing everything. Wait, that’s what I love doing.
I mentioned to Liz my idea of finding Paneras across the country and taking pictures of them. Then photoshop them together and print a copy to hang up somewhere in the store. *smiles* Hrm. She did say talk to strangers. What better place? Ah, the irony. I laugh.
I should, at the very least, find some random things to see and do along the way. Three weeks? Liz is right, that may not be enough time. Eh. I could always call Mike and let him know I’ll need another week. I know he wouldn’t fire me. *smiles*
Road trip? We have a Panera, a pretty new one (only been there like a coupla years, tops), and this is a nice place to see in the summertime. 🙂
