Making a Difference.
Maybe I’m farther along than I realize. I know it’s horridly corny to analogize myself with Star Trek, but its fun. Star Trek V was about therapy. Letting go of repressing and gaining strength from sharing. It also helps other people. Star Trek VI was about moving out of your comfort zone. Yeah, I know its a stretch.
Star Trek VII introduced the notion of a “Nexus”, a place where time doesn’t exist. No future. A veritable nightmare, as your actions have no consequences. I see this as how people get stuck in their own “ruts”. Why leave?
Picard was able to convince Kirk to leave because outside of the Nexus, Kirk can make a difference, one last time. (And then die a death unfitting for a legend.)
So I was talking to my friend Ashley last night. (an online Ashley, not to be confused with Erik’s girlfriend) Her mood seemed down and I’ve sensed a lot of pain within her. She happened to mention chocolate at some point, so I thought, “Hmm. I’m going to randomly send her chocolate!”
She called me to let me know that its already there. Ha ha. That’s amazing. Gertrude Hawk is based in Pennsylvania, and it really did make it to Cali before 4:30 PM. She was calling me from work – her sister had called her to ask why she was being delivered chocolate! *laughs* You can bet her sister was jealous.
So yeah. I made her day. I made a difference. It makes me smile. Knowing I can bring a little bit of life into someone’s life makes me smile. Because, damn, that’s some good chocolate. Heh. Guess part of my sixty bucks is gone!
I’m reminded of a time I was in Blockbuster and Cliff was encouraging me to hit on the girl working there. I was terrified. He asked me how I feel when a girl hits on me. It makes my day when a girl flirts with me. It makes me feel incredible. His point? Why not make her day?
Ah, if I could, I’d spread love around the globe. Oh wait, I already am.
RYN: but I’m on my period 🙁
