    Workout XXIV

    DB Bulgarian Split Squats:
    5×10 @ 20 lbs

    alternating sets
    BB Bench Press:
    5×10 @ 85 lbs

    BB Wide-grip Row
    5×10 @ 60 lbs

Just testing out my accessory exercises today. BSS’s were as annoying as usual, but I never felt like I was grinding. I felt like I got a massive pump in my quads. The weight SHOULD be good following a maximal set of front squats, but if I need to lower the weight, I will.

Completely forgot to check my logs to see what I’ve done for bench in terms of a 10-rep range. Instead, I followed the recommendations of around 50% of your 1RM, which lands me around 75 lbs. Which is far too little. So I tried 85 lbs. It felt easy through all the sets. I actually did the last set at 95 lbs, just to test it out. I want the sets to be easy the first couple of months. The goal isn’t to try to add weight each session, just 5 lbs a month. That’s it. So it’s in my favor to start nice and light.

I just checked my logs, and I’ve done 105 for 3×10. Hrm. Perhaps 95 lbs won’t be so bad after all – I intended to take my normal 10-rep weight and knock off 10 lbs since I’ll be doing it for 5 sets, and it’ll be after a maximal set of bench. If 95 lbs end up being too taxing, I can scale back, but I think it’ll be fine.

Friday will be my last workout before a well-deserved week off, and then my starting of 5/3/1. I think I’ll just do some simple front squats for legs, and then knock out a whole bunch of overhead presses and pull-ups. Got a whole week to recover!

Time to play some everquest 2. Ha ha.

I know, and since you feel so strongly about the subject, you were the first person I wanted to tell about the bull I had just read. What garbage.
