Glasses Check.

As much as I love having Facial Bling™, sometimes I wish my vision wasn’t so screwy. As a result of my New Red Glasses not being quite right, I’ve learned a little bit. My old prescription was 350. Of course, I’ve never actually seen the prescription, so I don’t know whether that’s .350, or 3.50, or actually three hundred fifty. I don’t even know the units! My “new” prescription is 375.

I’ve had the new glasses checked. They’re the right prescription. I had a retest today. I went slower this time, having him redo it a couple times. Only difference I noticed was the green/red test, but I have no idea what difference that makes. In other words, the prescription he gave was right. Goddamn it.

I talked to the eyeglass maker on hand (don’t ask me the fancy names of these people), and he was kind of dumbfounded. Hey, that’s how I feel! It’s like it feels stronger, but I visually see no difference. How is that possible? Also, I sometimes feel like there’s a double-vision I can’t resolve. That’s what made me stop wearing them. It normally takes less than a day for me to get used to new glasses. I was on Day Five of wearing my New Red Glasses, and it still didn’t feel right. I was in the middle of an online test (in class), and I noticed I couldn’t focus on the screen. Maybe it was stress, but right then, I resolved to stop wearing them when I got home. What the hell, ya know?

Maybe I’m just expecting too much from my eyes. When I was little and got new glasses, suddenly I could SEE again, crystal clear. I notice all this gentle fuzziness, and I wonder if I’ll ever be able to see again. I wonder, “Just how good is normal eyesight?” It’s like.. even if I can see things and make out letters, there’s still not a sharpness about it.

When I first got glasses at the age of 11, it was like night and day. I’d been living in fuzziness for so long that I was noticing everything. I’d look at the carpet and realize, “Holy shit, I didn’t realize carpet had that kind of detail!”

Most people with normal eyesight get kind of desensitized to the amount of detail in the world. Seriously, look around. There’s stuff everywhere. Something as simple as plain white wall has a ton of detail to it.

Meh.

I’m thinking maybe it’s where I wear my glasses. When I first got glasses, Ed put them really close to my face (which hit my eyelashes), and immediately dropped them down a little. I still wear them in relatively the same spot. Eddie’s the guy that makes my glasses, if that wasn’t clear. Harry (the guy that’s in the eye center) checked the focal point or something. What was it? I think something about the distance of my eyes. The difference between my old and my new is a millimeter. I know how Ed does that, holding up a ruler.

Whatever. I’ll head down to Chester tomorrow or the day after. Maybe I’ll see if Liz is around and I’ll take her and Cliff with me. Liz is missing a pad on her glasses, and she’s too stubborn to get it fixed, thinking if it stabs her enough times, it’ll remind her to get new ones. Right. Whatever, Liz.

But anyway, where the glasses sit on my face. It could be the lenses are at the wrong angle. A thought. I’ll take even a slight improvement, as that’s all it’ll take for me to wear them again. I didn’t blow my parents money for glasses I won’t wear! : D

I can’t remember ever not needing vision correction…I often wonder what my vision would be if it were perfect, what I would see, how good it would be. I’m afraid of LASIK though :o/

it’s either 3.50 or -3.50, if i remember that stuff correctly. it’s been like 4 years since i worked for Vista Optical…

I was thinking that you didn’t give them enough time, but five days should be sufficient. I bet you are right about the distance. I have to have mine adjusted for that soon because even though it is exactly the same prescription, I am not seeing as well…

I remember my first glasses too. I mean, who knew the trees had individual leaves on them!!!

I hope you get used to your new glasses soon. ;; <3.

Are the new glasses shaped differently than the old ones? If they are, that could be the problem because of angles and such.

Hope you get use to your new glasses.

I remember getting my first glasses when I was 8, and being totally shocked that trees had INDIVIDUAL LEAVES. That, and the sidewalk kept going up and down like a rollercoaster. Heh.

OMG Overachiever totally stole my note! *bitchslap*

I’m sorry you have incompetant eyes. I used to pretend I had bad vision just so the doctors would give me tests and glasses i never needed.

That happened to my boyfriend… his prescription got stronger, but he didn’t feel like he could see as well, so he went back for another test. They told him that his far-away vision and his close-up vision are changing at different rates, so they gave him good close vision at the expense of far vision.

I remember when I first got glasses at 18, I walked out of the place and took one look at the trees and almost cried. There was so much to them! I was so amazed, I called all my friends and asked them: “Have you ever seen trees like this?” And tried to describe it to them. Mostly, I think they thought I was crazy.

Well I had glasses for the first time at 5. Not being able to focus might be due to stress or tiredness.. The green/red test indicates if the correction is too much or not enough. As for your eyes, if you are myop – not sure it’s the term in English -but it means you don’t see well when it’s far, but see very well when it’s close, in France it’s in dioptry. Here we’d say youre ‘-3,75’. *hugs* R

are you sure it ain’t negative 3.75??? i’m negative 2.75 (so i imagine your prescription will be a something.something something). I wear contacts almost permanently to the point I hardly even remember putting them in. They occupy two seconds of my day remembering while I clean my teeth to put them in or out, and for the rest my vision is perfect.

laser surgery? too bad about the not liking things in your eyes – how do you go with eye examinations or things around your eyes (like makeup 😉 hehe)?

Yeah, I got glasses at 10. It sucked. I think my vision is 550 in the left, 575 in the right. One day I hope to have the surgery. I’ve spent thousands on glasses and contacts.
