Exerbabble for 3-19-7
I solved my little condundrum of leaving my books in the van. I ate a mini-breakfast first. I called up the shop to see if they were done yet. If they were, I would have walked over and gotten it. They weren’t, so I drove over, got my books, and ate a second breakfast. Then I went to the gym.
Today’s Workout:
- Quest for 315: Conditioning, Workout II
Back Squat: 5 @ 115 lbs; 3×4 @ 185 lbs
RDL: 135 lbs; 3×4 @ 205 lbs
Superset A
DB Piston Shoulder Press: 3×5 @ 35 lbs
Wide-Grip Pull-up: 2, 2, 1 @ BW
Superset B
BB Bench: 3×5 @ 105 lbs
BB Bent-over Row: 3×5 @ 100 lbs
current bodyweight: 160.8 lbs (-.4 lbs)
Maybe it was the low reps, but I felt fantastic today. Where I felt sluggish between sets on Saturday, I never hit a point of panting or feeling overexerted. Again, I stayed away from maximal loads. I was actually done with this workout in 45 minutes, stretching and warm-up sets included.
Given that I’ve hit 205 lbs for a triple before on squats, I figured I could hit 5 @ 195 lbs. So I used 185 lbs. Same deal with RDLs. Oh, and my hamstrings are still sore as hell. Hopefully they’ll be back to normal by Wednesday.
Typically, walking to the water fountain and back takes around 60 seconds. For most sets, I was going to get some water, walking back, and starting the next set without much pause. That’s what I like.
Undershooting the weight placated my ego. Maybe it was focusing on my breathing, but I felt like I had more power behind the bar while benching. I really don’t understand the point of leg drive. I feel uncomfortable hyperextending my back. Leg drive is there if I get in trouble during a set, not for normal use.
I was doing bent-over rows with a preloaded barbell. I recall a year ago rowing 70 lbs. That was back when getting the bar off the ground required me to use deliberate form. Not that I round my back or anything to get the bar off the ground now, but I don’t have to put as much thought into lifting 100 lbs off the floor. If I keep this similar superset, the heaviest preloaded barbell is 110 lbs. Could be fun.
My eating should improve now that spring break is over. Awesome snowstorm!
Adjustments: I’ll do these pair of workouts for at least one more run. I’ll probably bump all the weights.
