All your joke are belong to them.

So the girl and I were in a diner yesterday and CNN was on the TV pointed at us. We saw that they were reporting some recent internet phenomenon. Candi commented, “This is news?”

This got me thinking about the nature of internet memes, or internet viral jokes as a whole. Did All Your Base ever reach CNN? I don’t believe so. Were there still people who “didn’t get it?” You betcha.

Well. I just think of the nature of anything that starts out “underground” and becomes popular. With popularity, the originators lose interest and disown what they created, or start to look for something new. Obviously different viral jokes come in waves. All things rise and fall, and eventually become old. I mean, the Speaker of the House has taken part in a recent one. Still funny, but clearly reaching a point of overpopularity.

But why the hell is a viral internet joke worthy of being news on CNN? Will there be a point where the viral joke as a whole stops being something “cool”? The story being broadcast on CNN had something to do with squirrels being photoshopped onto pictures. Squirrels have been overkilled, the only squirrel I laughed at had to do with gonads and strife.

Perhaps with a niche gone mainstream, we’ll end up with more obscure, niche-specific humor. That’s the only way I can describe Powerthirst. Well, maybe. But if CNN does a piece on powerthirst and its sequels, I’m writing a letter of complaint.

Actually, I’m forgetting about all the websites devoted TO internet humor. It’s so cool to be up in internet humor that I’m too cool for it. ; )

Just thoughts.

Have you seen Tosh.0? TV show on the comedy channel that makes fun of web videos. Funny. Yeah, there is very little news on the news these days.

When Radio 4 are twittering you know the world has indeed gone mad. It does amuse me though that the “elder” presenters steadfastly refuse to get involved with any of the tech related stuff.

I’ll have to admit. I’m STILL a sucker for the Powerthirst video. LOL!
