St. Patrick’s Day
Again today I see signs of the coming Spring. I saw a Little League Team out for their first practice today. Now that is a fail proof indicator that Spring is nearly here. Also the fact that it is still light at 7:30 PM is welcome. I remember what a great time I had when I coached Little League. I know that I had as much fun as the kids did and that is the beauty of it. The other thing coaching gave to me was a deep hatred of some types of parents. They should be Video taped and made to watch themselves making idiots of themselves. My son has stayed with the love of the sport and now is a Little League Umpire, another thankless job. The reward is in your own satisfaction in doing something worthwhile Today was the National Drinking Day when a lot of people who dont know how to drink prove it. St. Patricks Day, a time to honor the Irish Virus and drink green beer. The store where I pick up my paper even had green bagels. Possibly they were left over from last year.
A few years ago I was visiting a friend at his house. His Father was at the table with us. Patrick was the Father’s name and it fit as he had been born in Ireland and had a brogue that could be cut with a knife. We were discussing the movie Schindler’s List and the inhumanity of men and Hitler. Patrick snapped us to attention by remarking that Hitler was not all bad. We jumped down his throat in a rush to find out just how he could say that. He replied with a twinkle ” Well he did bomb the English.” Hard men with long memories and I for one am not too sure he was kidding.
My daughter and her children came to dinner tonight. Her husband is traveling this week and will not be home till late Friday so dinner at my house is a little break for her. If she was aware of how much I love having the children here she probably would charge me. They have left now and looked so cute after she changed them into PJs before putting them into her car. Well, it looks like another day is ending so it is time for a little reading and relaxing for the night.

Great videotape idea. Dennis Eckersley’s (the great baseball reliever) daughter videotaped him when he was drunk. He watched the tape the next day, and never drank again. -bourlinguer
