PATENTS
My grand-son-in-law ( is that an ever awkward title ) when he was young, 9-10 went with his Grand Father for dinner at a Chinese Restaurant. He became very frustrated that he was unable to use the chopsticks the Grand Father wielded with such dexterity. When later he was at home he took out pencil and paper and made a drawing of a chop stick with a flexible joint near the topĀ of the stick similar to a Sippystraw. Now this impressed his Grand Father who also happened to be a Patent Attorney who unbeknownst to the child took the necessary steps to have the device patented. He received the documentation on his next Birthday.
Nothing ever happened with the patent but he did include it in all his applications for Med School. He laughs and tells how just every Interviewer only asked about his having a patent and one even called out his name to see who he was. He did make the School of his choice but due to his Academic Profile.
Fast forward a bit and he came to the Shore for a visit with my Grand Daughter, his now wife. He had bought himself a new toy, a quad-copter drone. In my yard he flew it for his Maiden flight.
Slowly it rose and then the wind picked up and it veered towards some trees. He tried to regain control but the thing started climbing higher and higher and soon flew East over the trees and towards the Atlantic Ocean. It flew out of sight and has never been seen to this date. The entire group of my family was there to witness this flight and he was unmercifully teased about the loss.
A little while ago I saw his Grand Father and proposed applying for an other patent, this for a stealth drone. I bet the Department of Defense would be interested.
So far no reply.

Wonderful. My Grandmother use to make a (completely un-patented) joint using a rubber band. Nice story.
