GETTING READY FOR SUPER BOWL

Friday night three women from AA an myself went for dinner to a BBQ restaurant in the next town. We were going on a speaking commitment mainly to support the others who had signed up to speak. After a great fun dinner and enormous deserts we were ready to head out., Beside the food and the conversation , my spilling my Diet Pepsi all over the table was the highlight of the evening. Diane, one of the woman lives ¼ north of me and in the late afternoon she glanced out nher window and saw an Aircraft Carrier moving towards NYC. The first think I asked her if it was “ Pink “ i9n color? As it was I was told later that it was there to provide a base for Naval Jets to0 fly CAP as security for the Super Bowl. I was told later that it was named the Iwo Jima one of our smaller carriers.
When we arrived at the commitment we introduced ourselves to the people there and then the others from out group showed up, all 9 of them. Three were from our group and the other 6 completed the group, Kevin H. and his Merry Traveling AA Traveling AA Show. Every Friday the 9 men meet for dinner] and then p;ick a meeting at random to attend. This Friday was unique as they came specifically to this group. The people we joined were amazed to see all 13 of us there and in truth we are a hard act to follow.
Saturday night I went alone on a commitment. The group I was to visit uses what is called a Speaker –Discussion format where the Speaker tells his story for 30 minutes and the remainder of the meeting by a show of hands the members of the group discuss pretty much what they care to. They do try to relate their words to the speakers story. One man there had gotten drunk on a train a few years back and fell of the train between cars and had both arms amputated below the shoulder. He said that now he has no hands to pick of a drink but from the looks of him and his hooks he could figure out a way.
Afterwards I stopped and brought home a Pizza. I am now waiting for my Super Bowl Guests to arrive. As they say i9n the Hunger Games, “ Let the games begin.”

A man named James used to live here in Our Town. He lost both arms up to the elbow in an electric utilities work related accident. He had hooks and he encouraged everyone to call him “Hooks”… He used to come by every so often to have my husband fix, adjust the hooks, works, and the harness across his back and shoulders that held them all together. Anyway, we were at a meeting one time and sincehe didn’t have a hand to raise, he used mine since I was sitting next to him~! He was always amusing, one of the many unforgettable characters I have encountered in my life…
