BAD DAY GETS BETTER

Posted on both sites but with Good Humor

  Yesterday.
Not a banner day by any measure.
It began with water coming out onto the kitchen floor from under the dishwasher. I had called for service and they were due later in the day. The machine would no start but seeing the water was not a good sign. I wanted It to be an electrical problem and not a pipe problem. The repair men were to call a half hour before arrival so I could meet them at the house by leaving from my office.
I started driving towards work when my vision became blurry. One of the ear pieces was off and the glass was about on my cheek. Luckily I had an old pair in my glove compartment as a spare. I did salvage the arm and the problem was that a screw was missing.
Aggravation
I worked in the office about an hour and then responded to the service man’s call. Soon they discovered the problem. It was the water intake pipe and it had frozen and burst. It was not covered by warranty. The entire base of the machine was encased in ice. The solution was to set up one of my portable electric heaters to melt the ice. Then I needed to have a plumber to replace the line. At the same timer I must add insolation to the North facing wall to protect the pipes.
My builder is coming over today to repair the pipe but he also feels I should consider adding electric baseboard heating that I can turn on when the weather extremes hit. My downstairs gets chilly normally and with these single digit temperatures I need some backup heat that I can turn off or on as needed.
Last night being Wednesday my plan was to have my AA Sponcee come to dinner and we would finish the step before I cooked dinner. I had everything set out to cook and he called to cancel. His son was not feeling well and he had to take him to a Doctor. I went ahead and cooked for myself anyway. I had a strip steak and it was so good it just melted in my mouth. This was the first time I had used the cast iron fry pan to sear each side and then pop into the over to finish cooking. I just kept it simple and had a baked potato for the starch dish.
It made the day a lot nicer having the dinner so good. I finished it off by going to an evening AA Meeting.

when it rains it pours, or in your case, it freezes and bursts….

That ducks about the dishwasher but I’m glad that it’s being fixed so quickly. A good steak dinner always helps. I’m so glad you joined Prosebox. I promise that you will get used to it. XO

You are the sole person still writing here. Cough…cough…

sounds like our week from hell a few years ago. It was a HOT summer, had come home from Cape May and two days later, had a burst pipe in the basement, the living room ceiling feel down and Jeff’s car broke down–all in the space of 10 days! At least you had a nice dinner. The day we had the broken pipe, Jeff had to get a new hose and he made spaghetti—it was AWFUL–tasted like HOSE!

Ahh, the epidemic of broken pipes has spread to the shore! My boss’s kitchen pipes burst this week. Yuck!

Thank you for your kind words about my nephew cat. I will pass along your kind words to my Sister./ Goodness, as a new U of IA basketball coach said after a string of problems, I was afraid to unzip my zipper after all that! My husband says a steak will cure all ills so glad you ended your day on a high note!
