family update
This email to my mother needs some background update for you…
FirstBorn has a few more hoops to jump through in order to get her Masters degree in education, since she did the classwork ahead of schedule and now has to return to her college for some required seminars.
We were concerned that FB needed to fly into Dallas on a Thursday (two, actually) after teaching all day in Albuquerque, NM and then get to Sherman, TX for her early Friday required seminar(s), and since she is still under 25 years old, she could not rent a car. Late Thurs to early Friday is not a convenient time for her or my friends to transport her over this 1.5 hour-each-way distance.
Plus, this week (after teaching 3 weeks so far in New Mexico) her class schedule was dramatically changed out from under her.
Our MiddleSon is in his 3rd year of college and his first year at an RA job in the dorm. Tulsa has over-booked freshmen and under-completed renovation of Freshmen dorms. Many many problems for my son’s new job as RA.
Youngest did a silly thing and used a kind of rocking-chair as a foot-stool as she climbed down from her high bed 4 days before her first college class. She fell off the bed and broke two toes. Clinic–radiologist–crutches…
Mom,
THANK-YOU for your offer of help, but I was able to rent a car IN FB’S NAME which is the best idea anyway after all, so she does NOT need you to meet her at Love Field on Thurs Sept 18. Now that she has access to the car, she prefers to just get the car and head for bed in Sherman that night to prepare for her early Friday morning whatever. She plans to call you to arrange brunch on Saturday Sept 20 if you might be available. It will likely be with some other of her many grandparents in the area, depending on their schedules.
Funny funny funny: Today was her 2nd day on the new and broken schedule (where one class only has one student) and this evening was teacher-parent open house. Ha ha ha! She has been told that when the counselors get back next week she will get an adjusted schedule. Great! Just in time for her to have to turn in progress reports on Friday. She shared a conversation about some of these nuggets between another respected teacher during the massive “teacher sprint” toward the parking lot following open house. Yes, they were ALL literally running toward their cars following their 14- hour days…
MiddleSon called me Monday morning — so pissed off… I could hear it in his voice! He wanted my ipod log-in. Well, after all of the RA SHITanigans, the university system had decided to GIVE the RA’s all new ipod Nano’s. (Which is what I have.) MiddleSon is, of course, PISSED OFF. HE IS NOT APPEASED! (Largely because he hates all things MAC as he is loyal to the PC world.) I advised him to calm down, and yes, use my sign-in if he wants to, but that hey, he will probably grow to LOVE his nano as i do mine.
We also heard from Youngest tonight, and she is sounding happy and is so far managing to get to all of her classes, broken toes and all. She first-impression LOVES one of her two art teachers, and is first-impression TERRIFIED of her Poly-Sci-Gov teacher. This is for one of those required freshman classes with billions of students in a giant auditorium. Hubby and I both told her that she is probably well-prepared for that Poly-Sci class and to just not get behind in the reading. This teacher’s required reading list includes specified articles each day from the New York Times. Youngest has noticed that the PS teacher is one of the teacher images on one of the giant posters in the Union — an action shot in full dramatic lecture mode. We are betting that this will turn into one of those classic college professors that Youngest will end up loving.
Love you,
13D
sounds busy busy even though the kids are all out and about… so glad you are back! thanks for your notes… be well 13
