I grabbed Hubby as he came in the door tonight and give him the “outline/shorthand” version of several important events, before either of us got distracted/tired/occupied elsewhere with our attentions.

BAD NEWS: I take full responsibility, as family travel planner, because I did not make these reservations sooner, as I knew I must, but I was Procrastinating For No Good Reason. Our family SCUBA dive trip to Cozumel this summer will cost more than expected.

Note: Hubby’s contractual pay scale really screwed him out of his fair share of money for the last year, and we are also teetering on the edge of almost-3-in-college-at-once (so far it is only just the one) so even though I have still been living the life of luxury, I was also at some level not willing to book expensive vacations until someone “showed me the money”! … However, his expected bonus finally came through May 27, so …

… so (not what I had to tell Hubby tonight, as he already had this news:) CollegeGal and Youngest and I went shopping all day last Friday and we had a really great time and had success buying practical clothes and such … lingerie (some have changed sizes recently), shoes (closed toed is a new concept, but required for CG’s student teaching next year), swimsuits, other practical clothing,…

… our old house and our old stuff are requiring updating! New dishwasher last October (I had NO IDEA that they could be so wonderful!) … new refrigerator last month, and new drier on the girls’ & my shopping day… I know that I have told you all how I hate to shop and rarely do it unless absolutely necessary!

MasterCard called me the next day to ask if my card had been stolen.

Anyway, back to the Hubby Report:

Good/Bad News: I spent 2.5 hours today at the vet and the follow-up x-rays suggest that Old Basset is not better nor worse. The anti-biotic did not reduce the mass/swollen adenoids in his chest, so it is probably a cancer mass. However, the cancer has not grown in he last month, as expected. So he is still stable and happy. We are modifying his diet and introducing his required meds in a gentle order along with a little dog food mixed with his current diet of boiled chicken and cooked rice. We don’t want to tax his system too much after last Saturday’s all-night vomiting episode (I slept on the couch with him at my side so that I could help that poor baby all night).

Hubby report continued…

Our housekeeper’s house burned down today. She called me crying and MiddleSon and I went over there. We got there after her best friend and before her husband. We were there when he arrived and she fell apart again. None of us can say out loud what is probably the truth: that an ash or something from her morning cigarette smoldered on the bed after she left the house to clean someone else’s. The efficient firemen had put her smoke damaged bedroom furniture in the garage, but the “trash” was on the front lawn. This included a very burnt looking shell of a box spring and matrices.

GREAT NEWS: We received MiddleSon’s SAT scores today, and … YEA!!!!!

Higher than any of us (all smart) have ever achieved, but amazingly only great, rather than super-great in math. I initially told him that means he doesn’t have to take it again (even though he will be a sr in high school next year), but looking at the median-scores of his ambitious first-choice of colleges, I suggested that if he wanted to, he could take it one more time to see if he could bring the math up.

But even if he doesn’t, the score is so awesome! We are very very very very very very proud and excited for him. He also scored high on that national american math academy test, which I may have written about, so combined with this SAT, maybe he will be seen for his true worth, in spite of his upper-mediocre grade point record in high school.

and now the GOOD NEWS for Hubby (to be shared with him when I am ready): after he went to bed, I came online one more time and checked the prices, etc of those skyrocketing airline fares. I saw that I had purchased our tickets at the higher price (better flight times for us), but had reserved a second set of almost identical tickets at the lower price (less convenient flight times). I called Continental to talk to a human in order to resolve this. The very nice lady told me that what I had purchased (seat assignments not determinable at the time) were 4 seats TO Cozumel in FIRST CLASS! I verified that it really was all 4 of us in 1st, and she said yes yes, so I said KEEP THAT reservation, and cancel my temporary one at the lower price. Man, I plan to keep this special treat a surprise from my family until we get to the airport! YEA!!! What I thought was a bad thing turned out to be a good thing. The price increase is not enough to cover a 1st class ticket, especially multiplied over my family (FB/CG is not coming with us on this trip, but she has gotten several treats so don’t worry about her!)
