Landlady: Just Now…

"…these things they put up, lock the cameras, and the people who know about it… make the most of it…"

"Yeah."

"…what it is. Did you see the police car?"

"Yes, it was a little… a little unnerving because… (laugh) um…"

"You’re used to it."

"Well, I mean you know, I’m just sitting here in my underwear, hoping that nobody called the police because of indecent exposure, or something like that–"

"Oh my God…! Oh, you are so cute. That’s so sweet… No, no, it simply was… Check out, because I’ve had some, you know, ID stuff taken from me. And so, now I don’t even have things anymore. I keep everything hidden. Because I don’t want to be susceptible, I much rather pay cash, I would not like to pay cash but that’s what I do… Um, because… twice this has happened to me… Where I, on Ventura. One of them being this day…"

"So… Did you call the police over?"

"Yes!"

"Um…"

"There isn’t too much that they could take… You know, they’re not on duty there as, you know, but they’re doing their best and they got their eye on the marketplace…"

"So, you’re saying that you called them because, um, because your ID was stolen recently?"

"Well, actually, my purse was fine."

"Okay."

"Just kind of got some artichokes and kind of tested those. And that’s when the initial–it’s funny, it was in October. And it was in the Studio City place. And I get to the, you know, and here I’m–I don’t have any money. I don’t have pictures from my childhood or my brothers or anything. They did a great job. And then, same thing happened to me, I took Bob out to, or Bill out to… oh God, real famous place in Van Nuys, um, Hamburger Hamlet. And somebody… duped me there as well… It’s just that, when you get that new card, it’s just like–I’m paying cash now, I’m sick and tired of this… shit. I’ve–you know I’d like to have a list of all my stuff for my business, so it’s not worth leaving… money, because they all pay you back for that kind of thing. You know? Even with friends, at a new bar that was opening, and I go there from time to time. It’s near Sepulveda… It’s a club-like, situation, and it’s really friendly, and it’s been good to me for so many years, 25 years–"

"So, you didn’t call the police right now."

"…I, yeah, I did that…"

"Oh, and, why did you call the police?"

"Um… At this point in time, I’ve had some, again, some things… I’m starting to pay cash instead of using credit cards… Um, and also, I had some… threats, from my… not anybody you know. And so, the combination of the two, coincided. And they were really nice…"

"…So everything’s all…"

"…because, that way… They have to know that there’s an altercation, they have to know… something…"

"So, everything’s okay right now?"

"Everything’s okay. You know, with the exception of my… B of A card (laughs), which… I’ll call about, because I’m not using it any more because of the charges and stuff. I’m just kind of doing my own thing with cash…"

"Gotcha."

"Yeah."

"You’re up late tonight, huh?"

"At this hour?"

"Or are you…"

"It’s only 8:30"

"Actually… I don’t want to blow your world apart, but it’s actually… 4:30 in the morning."

"It is not!"

"If I’m lyin’, I’m dyin’."

"How is…! I’m looking, at my… my… my… clock?!"

"Yeah?"

"It says 4:37…"

(Pause.)

"Isn’t that just crazy?"

"Ahhhh, considering the day I’ve had… It… It hits me strangely. ‘Cause I need all the hours I can get to do this. I’m trying to take hours off my… work, in order to, like with all this shit, it’s just terrible with my business, so uh…"

"Do you mind if I come over there for a second to make sure that everything is where it should be?"

"Aren’t you cute. You know, I have a funny little chicken breast on a plate and you’re certainly welcome to another one in the fridge, if you want it."

"All right. I’ll uh–"

"–There’s the softdrink you like…"

"Whatever works, I’ll be over there in a sec…"

You have an interesting landlady.

August 26, 2011

So what’s going to happen to the land lady because it appears that she is going downhill fast

That’s really sad. She seems younger, from the way you’ve described her. So are you going to have to get a new place or what?
