A Bitch’s Bitch (the one I’m sending)

Dear Jean,

I’m doing you the courtesy of addressing you directly, so that you may have the opportunity to take care of an ongoing problem in any way you see fit.

Your new dog barks way too often.

I’m Eric from across the street, Deborah’s renter. We’ve talked once, I’ve been here for about eight months. I have a live and let live policy, and I heartily empathize with any person’s desire to do whatever they want within the confines of their own home. I also love animals, dogs in particular, and understand how much they feel like family to their owners. But I take my peace of mind very seriously, and without your specific attention in this matter I don’t see the situation improving any time soon.

Nothing I can do on my end can block out the sound. Foam earplugs accomplish very little, as does listening to music with headphones. When I’m talking on the phone in my home, people on the other line can hear the barking. It is loud, piercing and consistent enough to be considered a nuisance by any standard.

I know it’s important to feel safe on your own property, and a vigilant dog contributes to a sense of security. My main complaint is that she has trouble differentiating between a real threat and people just trying to conduct their lives. She not only barks at people near your fence, but people across and often far down the street.

Your efforts to quiet her when you see me getting in and out of my car is appreciated, but it’s important to note that she regularly ignores your request and continues to bark until she’s had her fill. She’s a young dog with a strong will and boundless energy, and it is up to you to teach her reasonable limits.

I realize that such a change will not happen overnight, but at the same time it’s not fair to me and others that might share my sentiment to postpone this change forever. I’ll drop the matter for a month and leave you to your own devices with no hard feelings. But after that time, if there is no significant improvement, I will not hesitate to make an official complaint.

There is no greater kindness you could grant me than silence, and for that alone you would have my eternal gratitude.

I wish you a fine day and thank you ahead of time for your efforts.

Sincerely,

Did you email or write a letter to her? If more people write (some sort of a petition) will that be good enough – ie let the local council warns her off etc
