busy times and edinburgh

for me at least, these have been busy times.

never had more work singing than in the last two months or so. every weekend has been filled with weddings, corporate appearances, parties, functions, etc. and my bank balance is smiling.

Also been busy going to a friend’s wedding, twso seperate trips to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival – where i saw a mixture of excellent shows, and one terrible one, which is actually not a bad return – and preparation for my own show’s appearance at the aforementioned Festival next August.

For anyone who has never made it to the Edinburgh Festival, i urge you to try it out. It’s a feast for fans of music, comedy, theatre, colour, sun, rain, and all things touristy and Scottish. Even though the events themselves represent the whole world. It’s scary that this time next year i could have had a show there, with those thousands of people potentially seeing my work. But it’s so exciting that we could make it happen.

Also met some insanely rich people whilst doing a gig in Edinburgh, stayed at their house, which was like something out of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (i love that show) and have put them on my mailing list for Investment in the show. Is that wrong? or just good business sense?

Also i’m back at work at my college as from today, had our first session with the students. they seem like a good bunch, the new guys. It’s all very different there now with a more rounded course, covering not just dance but more drama, and singing as well as some instrument work too. i’m now part of a drama team, as opposed to the last two years where i have been the entire drama department. i hope i can still call myself Head of Drama. sod it, i’m going to anyway. I really like my students, we have a good understanding, we talk to each other on a level ground, so there’s no patronising, no fear and no secrets hopefully. Because to be in a drama class, there’s no point being a closed book. Here’s hoping the new class take on the same mentality.

However, this full timetable has meant no time to see my girlfriend, but we make up for it where we can. she’s coming to see me in a couple of days, then we have a wedding to go to at the weekend. But that’s us both busy again seperately for another week. Ho hum.

My contract came through for work in pantomime again this Christmas, for those who don’t ‘get’ panto, it’s a traditional British christmastime show, with bad jokes, bright colours, and men dressed as women and vice versa. When i write it like that, i understand why the Americans think British people are morons. It’s good fun, honest. Anyway, i’m working backstage on it, although will likely have to do something or other onstage at some point. All great to be a part of, and it’s really good money, so happy days, especially as i can still do the big money events with my group on the days off (Christmas Day, Hogmanay – New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day)

So life looks good today. But then, it usually does.
