HE PROPOSED!!
Well, Amir proposed. I was absolutely shocked. Here’s how the night went:
He took me out to a beautiful bed and breakfast–coincidentally the same B&B to which we went on our first date. We got ready to go out for a night on the town. I wore a burgundy dress and a swarovski crystal necklace and earrings Amir had gotten me 4 years ago. He wore his military dress blues. He looked SO handsome…
We then went to the restaurant where we had our first date. We sat at the same table as our first date. The table is the only table between the first and second story. It is on it’s own little balcony overlooking the first floor and all of the people below. It’s very open but at the same time, since we were the only table there, it was very private. Amir asked me three times if I was having a good night. I thought "That’s weird… he keeps asking me how the night is going."
He said "Is this the best night ever?" And I said "Yes, I’m with you, so it’s the best night ever." He said "Let’s see if we can make it better…"
Then he started saying a lot of really sweet things. He said that we’ve been through a lot together and that since he met me he’s been a better person. He said he loves who he is when he is with me and he loves who we are together. I didn’t realize what was happening at first. I just thought to myself "Wow, he’s being really sweet right now. Nice."
The next thing I know he’s on one knee next to the table in front of my chair. My eyes were so wide. I couldn’t believe it. I put my hand over my mouth and he said my full name… then he said "Will you marry me?" I started crying and I said "Yes, of course!" … and after a few seconds I said "Are you serious right now?"
He said "Yes I’m serious!" and he laughed. Then we hugged for a minute and I cried. The waitress immediately brought over a bottle of really expensive champagne and we toasted to us.
We had plans to go see the Nutcracker (which is also the ballet we saw on our first date!). We took a cab there and I told the cab driver that we just got engaged. I told EVERYONE that night that we just got engaged. In fact, I did so when I went through a DUI check point. Amir wanted to have a beer at the bar so I told him I would drive. When I got to the COP checking everyone she asked me if I had anything to drink that night. I told her "Yes, about five hours ago I had some champagne. We just got engaged tonight!" She laughed and said "That is something to celebrate." She shined a flash light onto my ring and I said "Isn’t it gorgeous?!" I laughed and said "Sorry, I’m telling everyone tonight!" She said "Don’t worry about it. When I got married I told everyone, too! Have a great night and congratulations!"
Amir told me as we were pulling off "Next time a COP asks you if you’ve been drinking that night, just say no, even if it was five hours ago." And he smiled at me.
When we got back to the B&B there was another expensive bottle of champagne waiting for us, and there was a big beautiful bouquet of flowers. It was wonderful.
Ever since the night we got engaged he’s been super sweet. . . and I have been in a fantastic mood. Everything has been going very well for us. We decided to get married in my home state because I have the most family there. We’re having a summer wedding (I hope June works out okay.)
We have decided to elope, also. We are getting married in the town in which we live right now. We are doing all of the paper work so I can get on Army insurance and so he can start getting dependent pay. I have decided to get married on Monday January 30th. I’ve decided to do it then because the moon will be in Taurus on that day. It will also be exactly at the first quarter and waxing, which is also good. Monday is a good day for a wedding, too. So all in all, it’s a good day. Monday is for health according to old English superstition, but I believe that being married on a day dedicated to the moon will be good for our relationship. The moon is said to rule emotions and help open communication. I think it will be a great day.
We are having two witnesses that we both really like for that day (I hope they are able to make it. I know they both have to work!). We will be married 11:00, I think.
Anyway, I am so happy. I have waited through 2 year-long deployments and 4 and a half years for this. I am just so happy.
Amir had a ring custom-made for me. There is no other ring in the world *exactly* like mine. Here are some pictures of the ring:
