Fall (memoriah)
I joined a band. I am playing bass and singing (and driving the van!) with people who are currently more successful than I ever got on my own. I don’t know why I didn’t think about this move before.
I am striving closer and closer to realizing my personal artistic ambition(s). My vision of how I fit into this crazy, ever-changing culture of art and human expression has taken me a lifetime to formulate, and I just about have it. I am producing works of an consistent, objectively high level of quality. The application of everything I’ve learned over the last 6 years in terms of composition, performance, and audio engineering are finally melding together with a little (or a LOT) of trial and error into something that I’m actually pretty proud of.
So the plan (in part) is something that I had going many years ago with my good friend Joe. Just to have a website where I put up the stuff I record. Not for fame or fortune, but for posterity? I’m able to be relatively happy just writing and recording music. I want this website to serve a double-purpose. The first is obviously for me to put my creations out into the world, but the second would be for me to host the works of others. Kind of like an online record label. I also want to be able to collaborate with people who are part of my little online world and put that stuff up on this Dream-Site as well.
Yessir.
I bought an Audio Technica AT 20-35 so I’ll be able to record really crisp-sounding vocals and acoustic guitars. My Shure SM-58 is great for recording electrics but it lacks the kind of frequency response that one needs to fully capture the subtleties of, say, a human voice.
I is excited.
I applied to a few programs at university for January 2012. We’ll see if I get into anything. I’m super bored just sitting around doing nothing, which I think is a sign that things might be getting a little better for me. This time last year I didn’t give a flying f*ck if I woke up at 3pm and sat around all day smoking weed and trying my best not to think about myself. Nowadays doing that sort of thing seems like a powerful waste of time.
Goes to show you the difference time can make (even though I have spent a pretty good portion of my life publically deriding the ‘time heals all wounds’-type sentiment).
Couple of really good bands to check out that I’ve gotten into in the last 3-4 months:

So that’s about it for me, for now.
I bought a pretty awesome black-and-red striped sweater and a pair of jeans today that I’m also really excited about.
…Ok, now that’s it.
later.
The Go. Nice Choice.
