is it rather sad and stupid that i spent almost two hours today making a comprehensive list of albums i need to buy, along with reasons why i need to buy them, in lieu of studying for a university exam? i think it might be, a little bit, but do not really care too much.
why worry, when i now have a pretty awesome 15-CD list of records that i simply must own? it’ll make my next few trips to record stores SO MUCH easier. instead of milling about waiting for something to catch your eye, you go in with the list, buy everything you can, and then start a hunt for the albums that they didn’t have.
i think that’s probably one of my favorite activities. the album hunt. going to every record store in ottawa until i find a cd. i haven’t done it in a long time…last one i went out searching for was nightsongs by stars back when i was in high school.
but it’s a spiritual moment when you finally locate that album. and you don’t listen to it in the car. you wait until you’re home and in your room to open it up and put it in the stereo. lie down, close your eyes, and just take in the wonder of new music. something you’ve never heard before. it’s magical. it makes living an okay thing.

that’s why it’s fairly agonizing to be flat broke. to the point where i will need to borrow money just to get weezer’s new album on may 10th. hmmmph.

i suppose it’s good to have something small and relatively affordable, like buying a new CD, to fall back on when you’re feeling so low that you want to pull out your own fingernails and shove them into your eyes. something to make yourself forget about who you are for a while. i guess if you wanted to be cliche’d you could call them simple pleasures…but then you would most likely be a middle of the night infomercial self help idiot. if you are, fuck off.
