We Need Simplicity

We need simplicity,
Just a little more simplicity,
To be content, to be happy,
With life in it’s complexity…

As they say,
Stop to smell the roses,
Not so much because it’s scent,
But for you,
TO give yourself that moment,
A moment to just be,
And to feel,
To appreciate and savour the moment,
Between yourself and the giving rose..

Take a moment when you wake,
To just lay in bed for a minute,
And appreciate it,
That you’ve awoken to a bright new day!
"Thank you God!" you should pray…

And at night,
Take a moment to reflect,
Another moment to thank God,
For all that you’ve experienced,
For both the good and bad,
For everything you’ve had,
Because you’re strong enough to face the bads,
And blessed enough to experience the goods,
Thank God that you can rest your head again,
And let go of the day’s hassels,
Perhaps to also revel in it’s joys.

Today is a change to make good of yesterday,
And a chance to make a better tomorrow,
Don’t let it go,
Today is yours to make the best of!

EVOLVING INTO SIMPLICITY
Human consciousness is ever-evolving. Actually everything is always evolving, and, interestingly, evolution is not toward more complexity as we might suspect but towards simplicity. That is why our souls thirst for simplicity, in their wisdom, they know that love and spirit is simple.

While talking to Debra, a recently widowed friend, I was struck by her answer to my question, "Were the last few weeks with Todd’s illness very difficult for your family?" Surprisingly, she answered "No. By then we all knew that he would die, and we lived moment-to-moment. Our life was trimmed down to the simplest things – a tine smile, a drink of water, flashes of deep heart connection through and the sweetest time of my life." WOW!

Debra’s comments resonated with a almost wordless thirst within me. Simplicity. Sweetness. Time for reflection and relating. Umm… The upshot of that conversation is a deep commitment on my part to trim the unnecessary and the unwanted from my life without there having to be a crisis to provoke it, and to get progressively better at discerning when less is more. Sort of a continuous soul garage sale.
Right now, gently, and with great compassion, take a deep breath and look at your calendar for the next week. If it is more crowded than you feel comfortable with, ponder what activities and obligations may be unnecessary or unwanted. Without judgment, ask yourself if you are an "Automatic yes’er." Do you say yes even if you feel no?
Are you thirsty for the solace of simplicity? If so, tuck in your heart and mind a promise to evolve into more simplicity. Start by eliminating just one tiny or tremendous thing that feels unnecessary or unwanted. Simplicity can be simple and soulfully wonderful.
