Clip Passage: Movie World Has Made Us Dumb

I think the movie world has made us dumb… Especially when it comes to the movies of the "end of days"… When the world will attack itself and take us to ou watery graves… You’ve seen "Deep Impact" where there was a huge wave in the end that was so terrible as it came in hordes flooding the city drowning everything and everyone in it’s wake…

Didn’t that happen already? With the Tsumani? Why didn’t the people see it for what it was when the waves were coming? I’ll tell you why… We’ve been lulled by the drama… I watched the video clip on the news taken by someone who was on the beach in Penang and survived that day… There was a little child playing on the beach in the clip, I don’t know if she was related to the person taking the video or not… Anyway, we see this little child playing, and know this person is taking a clip of a beautiful day on the beach. The waves are rolling in and rolling out, with it’s usual flow and ebb… You just expect it to ebb with each flow, that’s how the world goes, right?

So the waves were coming in, and we were watching the clip… It was nothing like the movies full of drama… Nature needs no drama… It’s too proud and too stately for all that… The wave just came in, flowing like the waves before it that came and went, the only difference was that this wave rolled in, and it just kept rolling in, and rolling in, not even very big, but it just didn’t pull back out… It just very gently, very stately, with a proud ease, took those people into their watery graves…

I don’t know how it was for people in other countries, where thousands, millions were lost… Perhaps it was like those "End Of Days" movie, but in Malaysia it wasn’t like that. The waves just came in like a gentle blanket easing itself over everything, and when it did finally ebb, when the blanket was finally pulled away, you were left gaping, agast, in absolute shock and horror of the devastation it all left behind.

Nature needed to pre-announcement so full of drama to bring it’s doom. We are lulled by the the world of movies thinking that if such a thing happens, we would have the time, the signs and the warning to save ourselves… But somehow, it will all fail if nature has decided "Today is the day you will pay for all that you have been doing to me…" Nothing can stand in it’s wake, and no warning can avoid it’s destruction…

If it’s not a wave that comes, it’s a twister, or blessing rains that becomes a curse when it ends up not stopping for days, volcanoes, temptest winds, too many things, too many forms it can take to stop us in our wake.

So have we really woken up?

I suppose it’s easy to blame God, because you can’t point your finger at any one human being, but all of humanity who have been misusing the world to badly it decided to hit back… With ach stage of technological development over the years we’ve neglected nature, hurt her, poisoned her, and when she hits back in defence of herself, we blame God. We started this war with nature. Not God.

This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper.- T.S. Eliot

I don’t agree with T.S Eliot there.. It may not go with a bang, but nor will it go with a whimper… Perhaps only with a quiet eternal sigh…
