Don’t Let the Days Go By

Glycerin.

Every time I hear that song I think of a dance I went to in 8th grade with some “friends” that kinda ended up ditching me … I was having crummy time and this slow song comes on and I watch everyone pairing up and I was about to go into the bathroom and cry or call my grandma to come get me, when my ex boyfriend Steve came over and asked me to dance. He had brought a date but he asked to dance with me during like the only slow song they played  all night. I dunno. It’s a really nice memory. Come to think of it, there are a lot of Bush songs that have some strong rooted memories for me.

[Insert non jarring segue]

Last night, Nick made me pork chops and zucchini I didn’t get a chance to eat so I put it up in some Tupperware and brought it work for lunch. Holy garlic powder on the zucchini batman! The chops are great though. I didn’t get a chance to eat it because when I got off at 7 last night Ashley wanted me to go over to her house and watch her kids till she got home around 9. Then it was 9:40 … She showed up around 10:10. So I stayed and talked to her until about 11:30 and then walked home.

I made the kids ham with mashed potatoes and gravy … but neither one of them wanted gravy so that was a waste. She didn’t have a single vegetable in the house. If I hadn’t brought the ham home from work the choice would have been between cereal and Sketti-O’s. I gave them some cookies after they ate, and then we watched a little TV and played with Legos till I put them to bed.

It’s been an interesting morning. The administrator Kristi asked me again about getting my CDM and coming back as the Kitchen Director – I laughed it off. Then I was talking to the dietitian. She wants me to come back, said she would help me study. I guess Brandon found another job. So I emailed Kristi :

Were you serious about me returning to the kitchen? It’s about 550 to re-enroll and I wouldn’t have that kind of money until after Christmas. What would we do about a receptionist?

I’m thinking about it. Kelly F said she would help me study so I could get done faster this time.

Brandon did give me his notice yesterday ….

So that is where I’m at. Should I stay or should I go? It’s more money. I make my own hours. Lot more responsibility and I will get calls and stuff on weekends, but I had a high satisfaction rate with residents, I made a special holiday every month and I was really proud of all my kitchen and all my accomplishments.

I messaged Nick on it, and he said “Ew why?” but ultimately said it was up to me.

I called Grandma and asked her advice. She said it was up to me. I wanted to know what she would do if it were her. She told me that was a mean thing to ask. In the end, she said I was a good director and she would love to see me finish school and back in that role.

I know it’s up to me but other opinions are nice to hear.

I just had to pull up that song thanks to you. I haven’t heard it in so long. You’re a good source for old music that I haven’t heard in ages. First Unwritten Law, now Bush? I don’t have any memories tied to it besides “Wow, I used to hear this often.”

So I have no clue about your job. The way you described your time in the kitchen, you sound happy when you think of it. That says a lot. I’m curious why Nick had that response. Does he remember the bad side of that job? Either way, you should be feeling good that they think so highly of you that they would offer you this chance.

@heffay Yeah, he only remembers the worst parts of the job. I was always at work never at home. Stressed a lot of the time. But to me … it was a good stress? Like, anything good takes work.

@thelastdonut I think I get it. The stress from a job you enjoy is different than the stress from a job that makes you miserable.

More money your own hours?  But what about double time? Would you still have to do that?  But then that would be more money?  here is a question? Does money really mean that much to you or you prefer doing what you are doing now with less? But even if you do this new job for a minute you will still have finished your education and maybe do something else with the education later?

@jaythesmartone It is salary, but yes more money. It was also promised that if I have to come in on weekends I can get paid bonus for that … so the money is good. I like both jobs, but I feel more pride saying I am a director vs. a receptionist.
