Last week, here in Southern New England, we had HOT & HUMID temps. Hotter than it’s been in a LOONG time, and while the heat I don’t like, the humidity I can’t STAND. Also, we’re finding that the humidity affects Boo’s breathing, and really freaks her out. In the interests of having a calm & breathing kid, we decided (Edwin decided) to put the Air conditioner in. We’ve got a small window unit – small but powerful, and we put it in our Livingroom. We used to put it on the East side of the house, but that’s one of the spots we had a Replacement window installed. Gotta say, Replacement windows were NOT created with window A/C units in mind, for sure. The only Anderson windows (original to the addition on the house) left were the Bay window & the two on either side of that. Edwin measured, and darned if it didn’t seem to be a good fit! So, this is what we did last Saturday morning:
Here’s a better idea of that end of the livingroom:
Of course, since we’ve done that, the weather has been nice: Cool & Dry. 🙂 I’ll take it.
Does Boo have asthma? Your cat looks a lot like mine!

It’s like deciding to wash your car… that causes rainstorms, right?

I was going to ask that, too, about Boo and asthma. With Sarah’s asthma, cold weather always made it worse. She’d walk out into the cold air and it’d take her breath away and we were either glued to the Pulmo-Aid or in our Perma-Seat at the E.R. That’s what I called it because of her asthma and her broken bones (she started school every year for 5 yrs. straight with a cast on some part of her little body, my little stunt girl), etc. Boo’s breathing is ok with the cats? That’s a blessing. Take care and I’ll keep fingers crossed for sun, sun, sun!

I’m glad that ya’ll have it in. Now when the weather changes again, ya’ll aren’t out in the heat and humidity doing that. I hope the weather stays nice for a while! Our heat index today was 104 and it’s not even officially summer. This is the time of year I think of moving up North somewhere!

I think an air conditioning unit is the most beautiful accessory any room can have.

Sounds like asthma to me; her symptoms are very similar to Brian’s and he has quite severe asthma. Dust, cat dander, mold, etc. all bother him, but so does humidity, pollen and extremes in temperature.

We had a unit like that in our bedroom in Dorchester. There were days we lived in that room. I love my studio ceiling fan down here, because the studio is at least 5 degrees warmer than the rest of the house in summer. I hope Boo can breathe easier soon! Pollen affects me much more down here than it had up north.

I like the kitty sitting in the picture! and I remember the days of having a window AC in my apartment. it was a pain in the ASS! but it did what it was supposed to, so even though it looked like hell, we kept it! 🙂
