Unexpected Logging Out

Hello all,

The cat is snoring. Loud enough to be a person.

Buzz Lightyear is saving the day. Again. (“I’m packing you an extra pair of shoes, and your ANGRY eyes, just in case.” That still cracks me up.)

There’s a wind blowing, rattling the screens. It hailed this morning.

The title of this entry could make a second-grader laugh.

What do you expect after midnight? Hemingway?

I’ve been getting a lot of mail and notes today about people being unexpectedly logged out of their diaries while traveling around the site. After testing and testing and testing some more, I found that this was only happening to free users, and only happening on certain pages (the Latest Entries, Reader’s Choice, Search, Theme, and Diary Circles pages).

Turns out those are the same pages that we were running some test ads on this week, for a prospective new advertising agency. I don’t know what is happening in their ads that is causing our user sessions to end, but after testing for a couple hours without the ads I’m sure that this was the cause. Running one of our test diaries in free mode, I was able to visit each of the offending pages dozens of times without being logged out. That’s how it’s supposed to work.

OD Plus users were unaffected by this, since they don’t see ads.

Since it’s now the weekend, I don’t expect to have an answer from this agency until Monday regarding the interfering ads – but until I know they have been fixed, they will remain off of our pages.

Thanks you for the update and fixing the problem! Your box content was funny. It also sounds like you had a busy day off. I don’t like those carts where the wheels turn around. I find them hard to keep straight.

wow, thank you for fixing that problem. I noticed it too, but I thought it was me screwing something up…lol

Incidentally, I noticed yesterday when logging in at work that the “net nanny” software was blocking one of the ads on the front page – I’ve never seen that before, so obviously somewhere their address has been logged as “troublesome”. Unfortunately, I can’t tell you which one it was!

i think you have a secret fetish of torturing free users by mentioning the no ad thing for odp members. its ok..i do too at times. i love no ads 😉

I really dislike the bar on the top of the page that was recently added.

I like Hemingway. My cat snores too. The cat and dog both sleep in my mom and dad’s room, so my mom has to fight to get to sleep before my dad or the animals or else all that snoring keeps her up.

Ah, Toy Story 2. I LOVE that movie… especially Mrs. Potato Head!

There must be a DM Jr. if you’re watching Buzz Lightyear….altho, hubby and I like to watch Toy Story…so, enh.

I’ve been experiencing a problem lately with the Options Bar, that usually appears at the top of the page after login. For the past two weeks or so, the Options Bar has disappeared and only appears when I visit certain diaries. Is there any setting I can change to view this bar? Thank you.

still not fixed I don’t think. Funny, it didn’t happen to me before your entry, and now, it happens everyday! Go figure!

Just out of curiosity…I thought by paying the 24 buck a year or something was supposed to get us out of the ad stuff…but I’m still getting them…maybe I got the wrong thing? Can you help?

FYI…that logging out thing? Still happening. In Search for me today. Three times. Hope it’s a good Monday and you’re enjoying the new office stuff!!!

RE: unexpected log outs!? This has happened to me repeatedly both, yesterday and today, when I go to my community age group to find new diarists? Are you still running tests or new ads? Bummer for me, eh?

It’s not happening to just free users, it happens to me on a daily basis, and I’m good for another 6 months.
