Theme of the Week 3 – What is an accomplishment you are particularly proud of?

Everybody has something they have done in their life that they are proud of – I could probably come up with a few (not least of which have to do with my children and family) but to be honest the first thing that popped in my head when I asked myself this was being an Eagle Scout.

I made Eagle when I was fifteen, which was fairly young. My Eagle project was rebuilding a set of trails in a local park, putting down wood chips to walk on and building three bridges to go over swampy parts. It was a pretty big project, and I still remember how nice it was to see people using those trails the next year when we would go by.

Back then, required merit badges for Eagle included First Aid, Camping, Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, Citizenship in the World, Lifesaving, Cooking, and a few others. I got twenty-four merit badges total, with twenty-one being required. There are still times forty years later that I tell people I am an Eagle Scout and they are impressed – which is nice.

Camping was a favorite merit badge, as was Canoeing – part of doing Canoeing then was completing a 50-mile trek, which was quite a lot of paddling 🙂

Other business:

  1. There are a bunch of new Circles (like Television, Film, Music, LGBTQ, several more) – they all came from member suggestions so please check them out!
  2. We have been working on help pages, they are now online and connected to the main menu – there are many more to come, but you can get some help and see what we are working on there.
  3. As I said in the last entry, our Engineers have created a tool that lets us set all of your old entries to Private (or Friends Only) – so if you want us to run this on your diary before the public launch that is coming shortly, let us know through the Support link at the bottom of the page.

Hope everybody is having a pleasant holiday season!

Becoming an Eagle Scout, and even going above and beyond the requirements, is very noteworthy, I am proud of you!! 🙂

As someone with a diary on PB, will I be able to copy/paste entries if I would like to? Thanks, Michael

December 29, 2017

@commonsensechristian yes, you certainly can copy paste from there or anywhere else you may have been writing. Also – you can backdate entries, if when you are publishing the entry you change the publish date in the options for the entry – then it will appear in the correct place in your diary.

@commonsensechristian: Yes, pllease, if you want to!! 🙂

@wildrose that is such an awesome thing for him, I have a feeling I will be the same way 🙂

I Just held a Citizenship in the Community merit badge clinic (Eagle Required) for 6 Scouts this afternoon. For one young man, this was his last MB to get Eagle. I never made it to Eagle (my son did) so I take great pleasure in helping make sure others do. Congratulations to you!

That’s awesome!

Eagle Scout is a huge accomplishment! That’s awesome. I was a Girl Scout leader for a few years and I certainly appreciate your good citizenship.

Eagle Scout here too! Though I made it by the skin of my teeth! Got all my paperwork in on May 6, 1997… and I turned 18 on May 11, 1997! 😅

Wish I got it done earlier. I had enough merit badges for a palm or 2 (32 total). I think my favorite badges were pioneering (I was the knot guy in my troop) and the projectile ones (shotgun, rifle, and archery).

@mikeatari I didn’t get close to any Palms but I liked Pioneering too!
