The first twenty-four
Thanks very much to all of you for the first day of testing! We’ve already got some valuable input that a number of you have submitted – please remember, the best way to send this to us is through the Support link at the bottom of the page, as that way we will be sure to get it into our ticketing system.
Remember that this site is a work in progress, and what you are writing with is not the finished product. Much of your input will be taken into account as we refine the
site for its public launch.
We had a couple people having trouble logging in, but for the most part I’m very happy with how things are going so far!
One important reminder: your diaries were all set to Private in the new site, in order to protect the privacy of people who didn’t expect the site to come back, or for their diaries to survive. In order for the other members to see your entries, you must go to the Profile and to Settings and change your Diary Privacy to
Public or Friends Only. If you don’t do this, other people will not be able to access your entries.
Personal
DiaryMistress and I were away last week for a quick vacation, and we had the opportunity to visit Yellowstone and Jackson Hole. She had been to Yellowstone in her youth, but I had never been – I feel very lucky to have had the chance to visit such an amazing place, it’s absolutely unreal.
We took a walk from Old Faithful out to Morning Glory Pool (picture below), which was her favorite spot when she visited last time. I had never seen anything like it, such beautiful colors.
The sad part was that the sign next to it showed that the colors used to be even more vivid – but have decreased over the years. This is because the colors in the pool are actually from different strains of bacteria, and the blues and greens are bacteria that love heat – but over time, people have thrown stones and trash into the pool that have plugged up the hot spring at the bottom, so the pool is cooler than it used to be. So strange to think that anyone would ever throw trash into such a natural wonder.
One of my favorite signs from Yellowstone, since everybody needs a reminder that it’s on top of a caldera:
I love the Morning Glory Pool!
I’m a little confused about the privacy settings. I set my diary to public for now, but how does that affect all of my entries that were specifically private years ago? I see the key symbol on some of them indicating they’re private, but when I click to edit one of these private entries, the “Visibility” setting says Public.
Your entries that were Private in the past will still be private – but let me check on the question about the visibility setting.
@thediarymaster Will we be bringing back the tool that allowed us to do mass updates on entries? I am also confused about the privacy settings and changing it at a diary level affects existing entries.
@asilliamagdalene Yes, we will be bringing that tool back, it’s in the works. Thanks!

I have a photo of that sign, too. And yet every year, someone falls in, someone gets head-butted by a bison and life-flighted out, and elk pin tourists to their cars with their antlers. No amount of signage seems to cure those who lack plain old common sense. I saw Morning Glory Pool as a child and it was much brighter. Very sad. Gorgeous area, though 🙂 So glad you were able to visit it! As for the site here, it’s awesome. Will be fun to see the tweaks along the way. Thank you so much.

There are those hellbent on destroying beauty. Now I want to see the pool! Added to my very long bucket list.
