I’ve been reading back through your notes and I can’t believe some people. I love this place and I’m just glad it’s still here. I don’t remember having any trouble with OD between 2004 and now. That’s years without any problems at all. I’m sure most sites have more problems than that. You do an incredible job and I just wanted to say thanks. P x

Ahhh DM….. I havent posted here in a while mainly because of life and when I came to post, the site was down. I looked to FB for an update and saw that you did inform everyone of the problem. I was not scared nor did I think you would just abandon us. This site means too much to you as well and I know you would never just leave us hanging. I’m not unhappy about OD being down, I’m unhappy with the lack of customer service and I think that is what most of the complaints were about. Open Diary has never had good customer service, I just don’t understand why that can’t be improved, but I guess after 12 years of very poor customer service why change anything??? If it’s broke, let it stay broke (the customer service)?

Thank you for the credit. I am sorry, but, I have become nervous and almost fearful of a permanent crash & burn. I also joined an alternate site, but WILL stay here. I am a Plus member, and have been here for Years!! I just hate to say this, but, in all honesty, the lack of communication and updates during the 6-7 days of “downtown” was appalling. I kept checking Facebook, and no one ever updatedthere. I DO realize there are issues with servers, etc, but, even if you aren’t sure exactly what is wrong, or how long it will take to find it and repair it, etc, PLEASE just update either the OD FACEBOOK page, or here on the front page. Just be honest, say, ” We are diligently working to find the glitches, or whatever, etc, and we don’t have any more info. than that right now, but we WILL keep you updated, even if NOTHING changes! It’s NOT the problems that occur that scare me so much, it’s the lack of communication to us, which, to me, feels like you don’t care about our worrying. I KNOW this is NOT true, you DO care, just PLEASE communicate MORE! Thank you for all your hard work. BigHUgz.

We don’t mind waiting through disasters if someone communicates with us. This last time there were no notes on Facebook, and we all felt bereft.

Why not have a volunteer to post communications at Facebook. A “Custumer Service Rep” whose sole duty is to get an email from the ODDM and post to Facebook in case of another crash.

ILLY; We all did see that message on Facebook, but the site had been down for almost a week. (It may not have been that long, but I’m probably exaggerating because I went crazy.) The site kept going in and out and in and out and that was the only thing that we saw. And it stayed there for so long. I feel maybe at least a daily update there would be good next time something like this happens. I wasgetting irritated, yes, but not to the point of cussing everyone out. I’m very grateful the site is back, and I appreciate everyone’s hard work on the site. The only problem was the lack of updates. There were maybe two within the week it was down. Do you know what I mean? =/

Re better coverage of the down times, this one was so long the concern came that a hacker had broken in again and you thought silence and diary ‘maintenance’ was the best answer to avoid a panic. The backup would fix that, if it were a well-known feature. Willy

Wow, I can’t believe some of these people. I’m not a plus member so I’m still a FREE member and I’m just thankful I didn’t lose any entries or have to redo anything. I have been a member of this site for over 10 years (my current diary probably 8) with various diaries. I use this nearly every day and am a little upset when it goes down but I’m sure that it will be fixed and if not, the FB page

will give an update. This is a diary site, folks. Let’s keep our complaining to a minimum. I’m a faithful OD person and have not and will not go to another site. I’ve put 10+ years of my life here and will continue to do so. DM, I just thank you for giving all of us an outlet, even the ungrateful folks. Also, if I was getting a credit, if I was a paid member, I really would not be complaining.

What do lifetime members get? You can’t extend infinity can you? lol

I completely agree that complaining gets us no where, and you wouldn’t be complaining if you were a paying member, but there are several of us, that while extremely grateful for the site and the work that the DM does, but what about those of us that are Lifetime members? The DM put out the call for extra funding and many of us answered that after the hacker attack. A Lifetime Member gets no “credits” for down time. I put my faith in the DM – and put my money where my mouth is at a time when he requested it. That’s why the Lifetime membership was established way back when. Those of us that did that? We’re just requesting a little communication. Yes, a splash “database” screen came up, but it was up off and on for days with no further explanation – no assurances that we still had “lives” here. In the spirit of true suggestion versus only criticism, I’ll ask that maybe the ‘perk’ that Lifetime members get is a distro list. Maybe you could add our addresses to a distro list, and even if it’s a quick mass mailing – “database died. no info lost. rebuilding.” We’d be able to spread the word too. Thoughts?

I wish that when people note with the “we appreciate all your hard work” and “we’re so thankful for all you do” they would word it differently. Because I personally am NOT thankful. Your lack of customer service and communication is inexcusable. No matter how many excuses people want to make. Maybe when you get the site running correctly again you’ll work on making the changes you promised membersyears ago and have never made.

Are you going to acknowledge the people who simply ask that you COMMUNICATE with us when the site is down? I really don’t care how long it’s going to take (because I get no extra credited days as a lifetime member) but I would like to know that it is being worked on and that there is a time line in mind. How many years have I (and others) IMPLORED you to effing COMMUNICATE with us? Really, it’s not hard. It would take 10 entire seconds to post one update daily. But, as one of my fellow diarist put it, you do seem to be “pathologically incapable” of communicating with us on an ongoing basis. Once this place goes tits up (and I’m sure it will, eventually), I’ll just rely on Facebook. Most of my friends from here are there already.

I am very attached to OD and would not think of deserting here. All websites seem to have problems. However, since I paid a hefty $150 for a lifetime subscription (I make very little money, so that’s a huge sum for me), and since you cannot *credit* me, I would instead appreciate something else: an answer to my previously emailed question – when is Note Search going to be fixed? And on a related note, what problem is it that continues to plague this site? Answers to that would be all that I really want.

I rarely, if ever, worry when the site is down. I’ve been here long enough to know that if the site is down you’re working to get it back online as quick as possible. So with that…thank you for all you do.

I know that OD is going to have to be offline now and again and it certainly is not the end of the world (and I do have a lifetime membership). I just ask, like many others, that you do a better job of communicating with us. It is not difficult, even when things are hectic, to post an update on Facebook. I think that is why people are upset, and it would be a very easy thing to correct.

I wanted to stop by and thank you, genuinely, for the updates on the Facebook page last night. I very much appreciate it, and I know many others do as well.

When OD was down yesterday, the Facebook page was updated and people treated it like the Second Coming. Why? Because you actually deigned to tell us what was going on for once – something that should be second nature for anyone running a business. THAT is how crappy your customer service is. And still no explanation for your previous lack of communication. I wonder if you’ll ever *get* it.

Hey, the ads are getting so Open Diary is just unusable. I visited a diary entry today that I couldn’t even read because it was covered with ads that I couldn’t move out of the way. If I can’t read diaries, and others can’t read mine, what’s the point of coming to OD?

Ack! What’s going on with OD? About every other click I get an HTTP 400 error, but when I hit refresh, most of the time I get the page. Except when I try to go to the help desk. Nothing comes up there. Do we need an update on what’s happening? Is it just me? Are you there?

I’m having some problems today. At times, when I click on a bookmark I get an error page. If I go back to the orignial page and try again, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. OD is the only site giving me this trouble, so I think it’s OD, not my computer or Internet. Thanks!

Am I incorrect to recall that there had been a limit put on the frequency of Reader’s Choice submissions that a person can make? I’ve noticed that [yesitiswell] continually bombards the list with her choices, so that everyone else’s quickly scroll down the list. It would be nice to get a sampling of OTHER people’s recommendations for a change, without having to weed through her multitude of picks.

Problems again with OD and error messages. Contacting HELP desk is a blank page too.

Dude (and Dudettes), I got sporadic error messages Tuesday evening (US Eastern Standard Time) but they went away with page refreshing and “rocking the car” by hitting the back button and the forward button so I didn’t write them down. This morning, o’dark-thirty EST, all I get is this from http://www.opendiary.com Microsoft VBScript compilation error ‘800a03e9’ Out of memory /default.asp, line 0 It’s the “white screen” mentioned above. However I am logged in right now using m.opendiary.com and not getting any errors at all. I guess this proves that simple is better, eh? I’m using Chrome with m.opendiary.com in one tab and http://www.opendiary.com in another tab. Just to be sure, I keep periodically refreshing the http://www.opendiary.com tab and it keeps telling me ‘compilation error…out of memory’ (“The White Screen of Death?”). Meanwhile the tab with m.opendiary.com has yet to give me a single error. It keeps chugging along without a hitch. This seems like a potentially important clue so I’m passing it along: OD bad, mobile OD good.

I want them to stop sending notes to me, and they have been obsessed with sending notes to my diary for quite some time. I am having trouble getting to OD. For the past few days I get a search engine, or IE can’t open page and have to try several times. It doesn’t happen all the time, just enough to be annoying. OD is the only site giving me trouble.

Hey I’m just following up on something we talked about a long time ago — when will be we able download our entire diary (PDF format) in one go? You had mentioned setting something up so that the system could queue a request when it was on low usage. Just wondering where that’s at, especially for lifetime subscriptions.

BottleCaps abuses RC. Mirror-Mirror is right. You should not allow one or two diarists to bully the site. She opens new diaries and abuses anew. When does it stop? Everybody knows it. Everyone sees it. I suggest eliminating RC altogether since it is simply an editorial rather than a nomination for superior writing.

Hey! I am an OD plus member and as of two weeks ago, I have not been recieveing my bookmark emails when they have updated. I thought that it was because my membership was due to expire so I renewed it but they still arent coming through?! What is up with that? If I am paying for OD plus shouldnt I be getting OD plus…I only keep OD Plus because they email when my favs update…so if I am notgetting the emails why have it….is there something wrong with the site at the moment? Because I would love to get the emails back up and running please! I have been missing out on reading favs coz they update multiple times a day. This is the first time I have gone ‘moaning’ to the Diary Master, but really, I would love to find out why its not working anymore? Sessel

Are you just ignoring everyone here on OD…is there any other way to complain? Because it is now getting on to a month where I have not had my bookmarks/subscriptions emailed to me when they update. I checked everything out with my email provider, to see if I had accidently spam marked the emails…but nope! I do not get any emails from opendiaryplus at all…why do we even pay for this?!

Hello, I’m having a little problem with my diary. The toolbar at the top of my entry writing page has only little white boxes outlined in black, no icons, no color and right now you can’t even choose a font type or size. Is it something I’ve done ? Wow… What did I walk into?

i have emailed the help desk numerous times regarding the Note Search function. it is a function that i have needed to use many times, and every SINGLE time i click it, it’s under maintenence. this has been going on for at least 4 months. i’ve done everything to support this place, i’ve stuck through the hacking, through the insane downtimes with NO updates whatsoever (not even on the Facebook page!? surely somebody was around to notify people that their diaries were okay). i’ve been here 8 years! i am a paying subscriber, and when i notify the help desk all i get in response is “it’s broken, deal with it” in not so many words. i would happily pay for a lifetime subscription, but if this crap keeps going on, i won’t be paying for a subscription at all, this is BULL. i’ve asked numerous times for some sort of subscription credit, too, but i get nothing. this is becoming extremely frustrating. how on EARTH do we reach you!?

I have a problem please help… for reasons I don’t understand on the write and entry page the main body that you write your entry on is missing the title slot is there but that part is gone any help would be appreciated. I haven’t been able to write an entry in over a week.
