Some suggestions so far
I wanted to put together a list of some of the suggestions we have had from the testing group so far, so we can all see the things we are thinking about as a result of all the great input we’ve been getting.
There’s also been a number of bugs found by all of you and fixed, for that I really want to say thank you!
Improvements and enhancements to the site that have come from testers include:
1) Removing the length limit on notes – already implemented! We are allowing notes to be any length, and will be implementing a “read more” button or something similar to expand them when they are long.
2) Various notes user interface improvements – including making the icons better labeled and more obvious, and better styling for the notes. This is already in progress.
3) Bringing back the All Notes list – on the old site, you had a list of all the notes you’ve received, in one place. We will be bringing that back.
4) Add notes replies notifications – we will be adding this, so you will see notifications when somebody leaves a note on your entry, or replies to a note you left anywhere.
5) Remember the year and month on the diary search – on your front page, when you select a year and month to look at, the selectors should remember that when you go to an entry and come back. We are currently working on this.
6) Add a calendar view for entries.
7) Add a bulk entry manager that lets you change privacy, chapter, etc. on large groups of entries.
8) Add Previous entry / Next entry links at the top of entries in addition to the ones at the bottom.
9) Show a history of notifications, even after they have been clicked/cleared.
10) Friends list – add a way to mark which entries have been read since they were posted, or highlight entries that have been added since the last time you logged in.
11) Chapters – add ability to set privacy and descriptions for chapters.
12) Bring back user interests or some similar way for members to tag what they are interested in.
13) Members-only privacy settings – meaning, you can set your diary or your entries to be visible to only members of the site and not to anybody else.
Of the above, I can’t say they will all get done – but we are certainly considering all of them and hope to do as many as we can. Thanks to all of you for the suggestions, and keep them coming!
I also wanted to add – there is some basic functionality like exporting your diary (for example) that we already know we will be adding, it just isn’t here yet for the testing phase.
Thanks!
Don’t forget free pizza on Tuesdays!
That will have to wait for the Pizza 2.0 release.
Delux ..please 😉

Quick question (not really an issue, so not worth a ticket) – I am thinking of posting some of my older entries here (the ones I’ve written since OD shut down). Eventually I’d like to post all of them, but at least for now some of my favorites so there’s a little more up to date info in here. If I back date them, will they still show up on the front page? In activity logs? In the to be developed ‘new entries by friends’ list? Or should I just try it out and see what happens? 😉
Looks like they are treated as happening in the past, so they aren’t blowing up the front page/activity logs that I can tell 🙂 But they slot in nicely with my other entries!
@asilliamagdalene yes that’s correct – they will slot in where appropriate, but will not show up on the front page or feeds because they are “old”.
@asillia I can answer your question regarding backdating, as I was curious about that myself. Backdating works just fine. Your entry will not show on the front page, and it will be placed chronologically in your journal. To see how this works find my entry called “time travel”

Also, as somebody who is way too verbose (hah, I remember the super short ENTRY limits of old OD!) yaaaaay for removing the note limit – I already have run into it a few times!

Yes, the calendar feature! That one is so useful. yay!

@thediarymaster The friends list seems straightened out. Currently it is showing me only friends who are active now, my old friends have again disappeared. I am assuming that as they re-join they will pop up automatically, as happened today. I thank you again for your efforts, they are appreciated.
@petersshadow that’s correct, when they deactivate their diaries they will appear on the list again. Thank you!
@thediarymaster
You are not doing this all by yourself are you? I mean, you have help- right??
@petersshadow no, not all by myself at all! There are other people involved thank goodness!

Thank you for inviting me to re-open my diary and, to be one of its initial ‘testers’ is also very exciting. So far, I’m taking a look around and familiarising myself to its brand new look and such. Its going to be pretty awesome once it’s open to the public again.
I have a question …at the top left: is it public with the purple showing and private when its white? I’m not too sure if I’ve posted an entry and it’s set to be private or public. Thanks once again
@daydreamer you’re welcome! The way to see if an entry is public vs. private is that on private ones you will see a key icon in the upper right. If you are not seeing your entries on the front page, you probably still need to set your diary to public or friends only – all diaries were set to private during the import for safety’s sake.
To do that, go to Profile and then Settings on the main menu, and change it under Diary. Hope that helps!

This couldn’t have come at a better time for me. Thank you so much for the “welcome back”. And thank you again for all of your efforts – past, current and future. Much love!

thank you soooooo much for bringing this back! My OD was a source of sanity before, and I need it in my life again. THANK YOU
I’m glad you’re back, and thanks for the nice note!

It’s like a dream come true to have OD up and running again. Whatever you’re doing, it’s all wonderful and your suggestions to improve it are all great. Feels like we’re among family again. It’s good to be ‘home’ 🙂

Keep it simple.
One think I would like would be a quicker response time when one clicks “ADD NOTE.” For me, it is a very, very slow thing. Posting is very slow too.
Hi @georgette, you are right the site is running kind of slow right now – the reason for that is that we are currently importing all the other diaries into the system from the old databases. While this is going on, things are a little pokey – but we expect that to be done in the next few days, and then you should see speed being much better. Thanks!

Glad to be back! Thanks for bringing it back. I missed it.

Spell check would be nice in the entry area! It seems to work here in the notes, but not in the diary entry. Maybe I need to use a different browser?
Hi @catsrule the spell check isn’t working for you right now in the entry area, because we have an editor bar that is launching when you right-click while writing. This has not worked out well (because it blocks the spellcheck, among other things) so the team is working on replacing that with something that will allow the spellcheck to work. So, you should see that working in the near future.

Is Friends list the same as favorites?
Friends list is a combination of the old Friends and Favorites – they are people you want to follow, and who you also want to be able to see your friends-only entries. Hope that helps!
