Popups are Back
Happy Sunday everybody,
I don’t realize sometimes how lucky I am.
In many ways, but today I’m talking about this job. I’m sitting here working on a Sunday, but I don’t care – because nobody made me do it. I’m working by choice, and choice is a wonderful thing.
I spent many years working 10-, 12-, and 14-hour days Monday through Friday, on a killer schedule. I spent a lot of time wondering, “is this it? do i spend eternity working five days on and two days off for the rest of my life? will i always have to show up here every Monday? every Tuesday?” and so on.
Now I work seven days a week, but the schedule is (mostly) my choice. I work more hours now than I ever did – even when I was putting in 70-hour weeks consulting. But the fact that I control which hours they are makes me fortunate. I work nights a lot, when things are quiet – often to two or three in the morning, but I don’t care because it’s my choice.
If somebody else was making me work like this, it would be a different story. I’m a lucky guy.
Sad news, and sorry to deliver it – but the rogue ad that was causing so much trouble the last few days has finally been cleared out and sent packing. As a result, I’ve turned the popups back on throughout the site.
As I said before, I wish I didn’t have to do it – but I can’t afford to run a free website without ads. I’ve tested through the ads that are running now, and none of them seem to be troublemakers.
I hope everybody enjoyed the couple days popup-free. If you really liked it, remember you can do away with all ads on OD by subscribing to OD Plus. For more information about that, see our upgrade page.

You had a link for odplus people to use, so they could bypass the initial popups… do you have that link? I had it, but my husband cleared out our faves and its gone… thanks 🙂

Woo-Hoo! You really are blessed!! I totally agree with everything you wrote. I wrote a comment in my today’s entry, stating, I am going to do some chores at my daughter’s house, where I am currently staying (a leave from my husband) anyway, I said I am going to do them because I WANT to, not because I HAVE to. 🙂 God bless you and take care. 🙂

Whatever happened to ODCares? Just wondering…

I’m sure we can manage to forgive you for this horrible crime against humanity. 🙂

The popups are back, but so is the minimizing thingie. I can’t read anyone on free od tonight, because my screeen keeps minimizing to about a 1″ square. Please fix this.

I read the blurb about your working schedule. I envy you in a good way. I hope to be there, too, someday. I often find that my fever pitch happens in the middle of the night, when everyone else has gone to bed. Nice to know I’m not the only one 😀 Be well

whenever i use OD the browser window keeps shrinking, making the site totally unusable. it is almost worthless. maybe your fix worked for people with ie as their browser, but for those of us with other browsers, the window continues to shrink. i would like to upgrade, but i have several diaries and dont want to have to buy an upgrade for each in order to use them. it is easier to move them to a

more stable site.

There is still an ad or something with a Trojan on it! It’s something dealing with ActiveX. My OfficeScan keeps telling me about it when I visit OD. Please check into it because that’s just not something that we should have to deal with with ads :/

Robert Heinlein once defined happiness as working long hard hours at whatever you enjoy doing best. Sounds like you’ve found it. 🙂

I have come across an ad — maybe it was this same killer ad — that kept asking me to accept a download. Even though you click no or cancel each time until it goes away a trojan horse turns up in the temporary internet files. Know anything of this? Or is it just me going to dodgy places?
Warning Comment
Don’t worry, as I mentioned, I’ll tolerate the popups as long as they help the site and make it free for us. I hope the ads continue to help you.

I wish I could find a job like that
