Killer Ad

Nothing interesting to say. Look to the left – ignore the man behind the curtain.

I’ve just shut down all of the advertising popup code on all pages of the site, until our advertising company can fix the problem with the Gain ad I mentioned in the previous entry (if you haven’t read the previous entry, please do – or this doesn’t make much sense).

If you have seen a box pop up with a message like “the web page you are on is trying to close the page” and had your browser crash, or if the browser window has been minimizing on its own, you are a victim of this ad. It has made the site darn near impossible to use for some people.

I’ve asked the advertising team to remove that ad from rotation, but until that is done all popups have been removed from the site. So enjoy some popup-free time, if you’re not an OD Plus subscriber.

My computer has had the reactions as if I recieved the email yet I never received the email.

I would just like to say that I have just read the beginning of your diary and the entries were full of amusing comments and other such interesting information. Nowadays though, you only seem to write about the technicalities of this website. Which is all well and good but I think it’s a shame, your beginning entries I thought were very interesting and enjoyable reading.

Thank you, I greatly appreciate your doing this, I was worried my computer had contracted some horrible virus:) I did a scan anyway though, and had to remove 17 parisites since my last scan a couple of weeks ago. I wish there were some way of regulating unwanted spyware on the internet, I don’t think it should be legal for unwanted programs like that. Thanks again:)

I think you may have the same ad running on TOD as well. It’s doing the same thing that OD was doing.

I know this space is for Open Diary only really, which is why I didn’t e-mail you about this, but this evil ad is also on TeenOpenDiary.com. I know the site isn’t on your priority list much, or so it seems, but could you please take this ad off of that site as well. Thanks very much. I believe the qualtiy of any product bearing your company name, should recieve equal treatment. It’s important.

I’ve been using FOD and TOD for about three years now… I’m still on TOD even though my newer diary isnt very old. I havent been able to really get to my diary at all on TOD… Will this problem be fixed on that site as well? Its really frustrating… Thank you for fixing this problem on FOD though… Hopefully it can be fixed on TOD as well… many teens use that site that cant get to theirs..

it worked on crappy computers. i was trying to use good computers at school (you know windows xp ones) but it would only work on the really old ones. hmmm.

Okay, I have ALREADY sent a thing to you guys about why I am not able to change my diary style. And yes, I have already tried numerous times to try and change it, and have also talked to you a few other times. Why am I STILL not able to change my settings???

Thank you so much! I appreciate how much I feel like your users come first with how you’ve handled this problem. You are doing a wonderful job.

You might want to mention to users how to fix the problem. If you don’t, the browser will never let you maximize again. It just keeps maximizing to about half-screen size. So if you want to fix it, you have to go to internet options and delete all temporary internet files… or I’m sure you could find the specific one but I didn’t bother.

What I really would like to see is an email option for those diaries set to friends only. I lost so many of my favorites when the “favorites only” feature was implemented and I have no way of contacting them. 🙁

Strange event happening to me today: When I click on any of the items in the drop down menus, above, I get a message similar to: Microsoft VBScript runtime error ‘800a000d’ Type mismatch: ‘CLng’ /includes/db2connect.inc, line 1 I’m running Netscape 7 on a PC and normally things work swimmingly. THANKS! You do a great job, BTW! And I enjoy your sidebars of late.

I keep getting a pop-up everytime I come to the site about an IQ test. I am an OD+ member and I use the non-pop up entrance to the site.

I think that ad installs spyware called Twaintec on systems that get it. I visited the site and got that ad and my comp. started acting up. It’s not easy to get rid of either. You might suggest that OD users go to http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner/library/twaintech/index.phtml to check if it’s on their systems or to get rid of it if they have it.

I just wanted to say “Thanks!”. I have been writing in this diary for three years now and I am thankful that there is a place for me to write what comes from my heart. No matter how mispelled or awful…or good. 🙂 Take care. PS. I really like the addition of the grey box to the right. It adds to the whole OD family idea.

is there any way that I can block certain readers? I don’t mind if people I don’t know read this, but I have some enemies that I don’t want reading it… I don’t even know how they got my name, but they did.

My diary front page has gone! I pur in a code and now the entire front page is blank! Also, it wont allow me to change it! Help!

How come my entries can’t be nominated for the readers choice block? Im not a paying member, but I would like people to read my entries and give me feed back, and some that I really like I want to put on the readers choice blok. But when I try to nominate them with my other account it says: “At the author’s request, this entry can not be submitted to Reader’s Choice” And I have tried many times many different ways…can you tell me why it wont wo

The report function isn’t working so I’m noting you. When I visit http://www.opendiary.com/entrylist.asp?authorcode=A385346 I tend to get a pop up ActiveX download request thing that my virus scan goes batty over stating that it has TROJ_IMISERV.C malware. Don’t know if this is a pop up thing or related to an ad.

when you click on private entry does that mean only you can read it?

Just a question, is there any way you can make the popups atleast closeable? I understand your need to use them, but several of them will not close and as they pile up they cause my browser to crash. I love your site and I have been using it for ages, but this problem is causing me to use it less and less and I am unable to afford the upgrade.
