Interest Limits

Happy Saturday everybody,

I’ve been hearing from a lot of diarists who are really enjoying our new Interests section. I am really liking it as well – it’s fun to find out how many different things our diarists are interested in.

One of the questions I’ve been getting a lot is “why are there limits on how many interests we can have on OD”. Don’t get me wrong – I want all of you to pursue as many interests as you please, and grow up to be well-rounded, fascinating adults. However, when I created the Interests section I was concerned about limiting it somewhat, to preserve system space and resources.

Having let it run for a couple weeks now, it’s proving to be very easy on the system, and as I said, interesting (no pun intended).

So I am raising the limit on how many interests you can create from three to five, and the limit on how many interests you can have in your diarist profile from twenty to fifty. I don’t want to make it unlimited, because there’s a potential for abuse (and I don’t see the point).

Also – I’m going to be watching the Interests, and if any have no people or only one person in them after a reasonable amount of time, I’m going to remove them (to keep it from being cluttered).

Another thing I’m getting questions about is the creation of interests. If you create an interest, it does not automatically get added to your profile. Once an interest is created, it doesn’t appear on the system until after I’ve reviewed it and approved it (this has nothing to do with my taste in interests, only with keeping the site clean).

Once I’ve approved an interest and it appears on the system, you have to go back to the Interests section and add it to your profile. This is done by going to the Interests Index or Search, finding the interest, and clicking the “add to profile” link on the right. As I said above, you can have up to fifty (50) interests in your profile.

P.S. Another thing people don’t seem to be finding in the new diarist profile is that there is a space for a description (similar to your diary description). This is provided so you can tell the world about yourself, and appears on the right side of the profile screen when it is filled in.

To add a description to your profile, click the “edit profile” link on the left side of your profile screen.

What’s with the bar at the top that is half cut off? The one that says Diary, Notes, Favorites, Random, and Search. What is the point in having that bar anyway? Isn’t it the same as the main menu bar? Could you add a filter so that the links aren’t underlined when you hover over them? My filter isn’t working since the site was changed, and the underlined links are bothersome.

The circles are all fxxked up. I go to “Cooking” and I see entries about someone’s bad poetry. I go to “Bad Poetry” and I see entries about bicycle riding. I go to “Bicycle Riding” and I see entries about family. Is this normal? Are people spamming circles?

u run teenopendiary too right?? if so, why cant people write entries w/html in them? & why cant they leave notes either? …but some people can?

Hi, I sent you an email earlier and as I mentioned Im sure you’re being overloaded with questions and problems, but I would like to know why I can’t work on my Diary Frontpage, Everytime I try to edit my description, to change my diary style It doesn’t allow me to, Is there something wrong with my comptuer or the system itself? hey.. i tried saving pictures to my dairy with the new picture tool (whichs is so awesome) and it wouldnt let me? do you think that you could fix that or look into it or something? id really apreciate it but if you have more important things to do thats fine. im just wondering if its the site or its my computer. I still have to use HTML when writing entries instead of using the new writing template found in most diaries.

some of my favorites are not showing as having updated. platonic, nick pickle..just posted, and there is no update showing. i am confused.

Thanks for boosting the limit – I just had a proper look at ‘Interests’ for the first time; what a great concept. If you ever choose to boost the limit again that would be very cool.

Dear DM, I recently had Spoken word poetry added to the interest list; however it seems I have misspelled an important word in the description. It says “performance poetry. poetry PLAMS…” ‘plams’ should be changed to ‘slams,’ please. Thank you for your time.

I’m having trouble adding interests, can you tell me how to do this?

Nevermind, I’m an idiot. I figured it out.

I like the interests and i accidently clicked ADD on one of them and i do NOT want it in my diarist profile to see. so how do i get rid of it?! i e-mailed on this topic but never got an answer… E-mail back @ Stephy685@aol.com thanks for making such a great community but help me get rid of this so my diary can be public again!
