Inactive Diaries and Removal

Now that we have all settled into our new OD, I’m ready to resume the practice of removing inactive diaries from the site. According to the OD Rules, any diary that is inactive for over ninety (90) days is subject to removal from the site. This is necessary in order for us to guarantee that we maintain optimal site performance.

However, there are some important changes to how this works going forward.

Diaries that have not been updated in the last ninety days may be removed from the site any time after the 90th day of inactivity. Updating the diary means that a written entry must be posted to the diary – logging in or leaving notes do not count as updating.
The only exception to this Rule are OD Plus diaries. If you subscribe to OD Plus, your diary is never subject to removal for inactivity, unless the subscription expires.
If you own an OD Plus diary and the subscription expires, the diary reverts to basic OD status. At that time, or any time after, if the diary is not updated for ninety days, it may be removed. We do not remove OD Plus diaries just because the subscription expired – they simply lose the OD Plus benefits.
Once a diary has been removed for inactivity, it can not be restored. Sorry, but we can not store inactive diaries somewhere else in case the owner comes back – there are simply too many to make that possible.

I hope those rules are clear. I am going to start removing inactive diaries tonight, so if for some reason you are using a diary that has not been updated – please update it.

Care to write an entry about why the site keeps going down for short/long periods of time? I (and about 15 of my OD/OD+friends) have been having problems with getting things to load for the past day and a half.

So… (this is probably a really stupid questions, but I’m asking it anyway) If, say, you are a diarist with several diaries on your blocked list, and those diaries are removed from OD+ because of inactivity, those diaries disappear from your blocked list, right?

i now have 2 diaries on this site, under the author names a*somedayprincess, and a*somedayprincess(2). they are duplicate diaries, but i havent yet deleted one because i want to make sure i keep my paid subscription active. if you could help me know which was which, that would be great.

Hi B – thanks for your diligence. Observation – site navigation is painfully slow today (and on a few other occasions) – high latency. Page loads can take upwards of 1 minute. Are we experiencing a bandwidth crunch? You mentioned that we’re all on one server now – are we (OD+ subcribers) subect to high traffic bandwith limitations if non-OD+ user load is high? Thanks –

it wont let me access my favorites list…wut should i do?

Off topic here, my entries are not showing up on the front page. They do show up on the latest entries list, just not the front page. And something else that’s happened 3 times while editing entries. I get a Microsoft Internet Explorer error that says: Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://opendiary.com/entryedit.asp?mode=operationedit&entrycode(number) Operation Aborted. (c)

Is there any way you can up the character limit? Or decrease the spacing? I noticed a space change last night, but now when I try to write an entry, even short ones, it tells me I’m over the limit, and I know I’m not.

(c) at which point, the current windows I’m working in close, an error report wants to be sent to Microsoft, and I have to reboot my computer and log back into OD so I can edit whichever entry I was working on. *shrug* It’s only happened 3 times, but two of those were this morning, so…

DiaryMaster~ At about 3:15PM CDT, I tried to check my favorites list. Though when I clicked the link button, I was sent to the 500 Internal Sever Error page. Are you perhaps working on the site where OD writer’s are unable to check their favorites list? Snoop

Got your email, but I’m still not listed on the page that shows newest diaries. Also – when I click in the diary maintenance area to change my title or diary description I am STILL getting an error, this one to be exact: ADODB.Field error ‘800a0bcd’ Either BOF or EOF is True, or the current record has been deleted. Requested operation requires a current record. /editdesc3.asp, line 25

my “edit this entry” button doesn’t work. I get an error message – which I forgot to write down. I’m sorry. When I hit refresh it still doesn’t work. It’s very annoying not to be able to fix things. Margaret on ODPlus. Thanks

I can’t access my favorites

Welllll okedokee…I have updated the fod/od, but am actually waiting for the merge feature so that I might combine the two. You Rock!

I can not access my favorites. When I go to the dropdown on the menu it goes to an error page.

Does Editing an entry qualify as “posting” to an OD? What if I make a private entry, then come back and delete it?

question…how long until we get to merge our fod with our od. i need to know because i have a few notes and entries on my fod that arent on my pay one. i hate having to go back and do the “just to keep my diary” entry. any clue?

How about crediting a diarist if he or she paid for a renewal but the little yellow box never went away?

I understand that inactive diaries need to be deleted but what if the person is physically unable and not just being lazy? My last diary, which was very special to me because it contained info about my preg. was deleted while I was in the hospital and then later in bedrest. I was not aware that it could be deleted b/c I had not written in a few weeks. But I was physically unable and now all isgone

hallo, I’ve a question about inactive diaries… you see, I have had this OD since there werent two sites, and my name had been ‘chant for quite some time, and then when there was a pay site, i kept both this FOD and my new OD+ but i couldnt keep paying the fees, so i let the OD+ lapse. and now i think because of this i have the (2) on the end of my name… is there anyway (cont…)

The diary I have had for several years on OD was deleted by mistake. By mistake, I mean a mistake on your part or that of your staff. I meant to delete my (2) diary, and it deleted everything I had… It would have been awesome to have had a little bit of notice before this change was made. Also, my e-mail about this problem was never answered.

Comfortably Numb (2) hasn’t written since September. Are you finally going to delete him and let me have my *unique* name?
