Favorites Only and Reader’s Passwords
Good evening everybody,
Since adding the Favorites Only option for entries the other day, I’ve received a lot of great feedback and suggestions. Many of those suggestions were regarding reader’s passwords and how they should work with the FO option.
Most people asked that reader’s passwords be allowed to access favorites-only entries, but I didn’t want to do this arbitrarily. What I’ve done is added an option to the reader’s password, just like the one that is there for private entries. This will allow you to set whether or not your reader’s password will allow the password holder to access favorites-only entries. On the reader’s password screen, you’ll find a yes or no selection to set this.
Another thing I’m working on is changing the Favorites screen so the “latest entry” link jumps to the latest favorites-only entry if you have access to it, and bolds diaries of people who save favorites-only entries if you’re allowed to see them.
Addendum: Oh, and there’s been some confusion about how the favorites only entry works if you already have a favorites only diary. The setting on the diary supersedes the settings on entries, so if your diary is set to favorites only, setting the entries to public or favorites only won’t matter – they’ll all be treated as favorites only. I guess a smart thing to do would be to not make the public selection even show up on the entries if you have a favorites only diary, maybe I’ll be smart enough to do that soon…
Addendum addendum: Somebody pointed out that for existing passwords, this option should default to “No”, since that is technically how it has been working for the last two days. People who have been using favorites only expect that the reader’s password can’t access the favorites only entries. So, if you have existing reader’s passwords, you will have to go to the edit screen and change the setting to allow them access to favorites only entries. After that, new passwords will default to “Yes” when added – but of course, you can change them.

Gah! Pleasepleaseplease can you have it default to No, when it asks if the person can access friends-only entries? I just rushed there in a panic, ’cause I posted a friends-only entry I don’t want someone with a password to read — if I’d not logged on until tomorrow, I might’ve been really screwed.

I have a question. I have a favorites only diary, but there are people on my favorites list that I kind of want to block certain entries from them. I don’t know how to explain it. But you know how on OD Plus diaries, you can block diaries from reading your diary? Well, if you could block certain diaries from reading certain entries, I think that would also be easier. Just a thought.

Well, that was confusing. However, I may not be quite awake yet. I really wanted to say that the Favorites only option for individual entries is a great idea. I’ve used it already.Thank you! I have an idea for Chapter entries – to have the choice to have ‘Chapter Entry Only’, so it wouldn’t show up in the ‘Day View’ if you choose not to.

Hi! I keep sending e-mails to the technical staff about my dairy and no one is giving me info about what’s going on. I’m not trying to sound rude, but how long does it take for them to respond? What’s ever going on with my diary, it’s not allowing me to save my entries!

How about there being a way to contact other readers, like through PM? I mean, once I had on my favorite list a person who suddenly switched to favorites-only. I can’t access her diary now, but this would enable me to tell her, and because I like her diary so much, maybe she’d put me on her favorites list just so I could see her diary? If you need more info, leave a note for me. I’ll be watching

Why is not possible to chose transparent for the page body; menu & margin in change diary style? I would like to chose a background for my diary (from another website) and want it all the same background (page, body, menu & margin)…but its impossible…if you put in the link for the page margin (in diary style)…and then use a html code in DD for the page body it is all mismatched!

Hi Diary Master I wanted to make a complaint about a diary on here & I didn’t know how to do it so I thought I would contact you. The diary I’m talking about is Cutter QueenHer diary goes against many of the open diary rules! She leaves notes on Any diary about her cutting including ones where authors are obviously children, Please look into it as I dont want children copying her! Thanks x

I have a private diary and then marked an entry as for Favorites only. I went back to edit the entry and get that I am not a favorite, can you help me? what setting needs to be changed to correct this or this a program error? you will need if you reply to me you will need to leave it here or in a previous entry not my last one date the 25th. thanks for your help

I went to diary maintenance and changed the entry to a public setting and still nothing the message I keep getting is “You do not have access to the diary page you requested.” to the right of the date is (I) does this mean something I am not aware of?

i live in hong kong, and chose the correct time zone, but the stated time of entry of a note appears to be 12 hours before the actual time. can this be rectified?
