A Monday List

Happy Monday everybody,

stream of consciousness
in literature, technique that records the multifarious thoughts and feelings of a character without regard to logical argument or narrative sequence.

The sun is shining today, but it’s not as warm as it looks. No clouds, no rain, no space freighters in the sky. There’s a rubber Donald Duck on my desk. He appears friendly. The office fish tank needs to be cleaned. When the water gets low, the water coming out of the filter splashes into the tank, making a tiny waterfall sound. Most people would find this soothing, I find it mildly irritating. I keep a knife on my desk, but it’s only for opening mail. As I type, little boxes pop up to alert me of incoming mail. 8 out of 10 are spam, and you’d think I would have learned by now to ignore the “ding” and the box popping up – I can’t be troubled to mouse all the way down to that corner and click the X to delete them. Like mosquitoes buzzing around my online experience, they are. In high school we read a lot of Faulkner, and studied stream of conciousness. This isn’t it. Skipped lunch today, which I often do on days that DiaryMistress is working and isn’t here to tell me to eat. Breakfast was Frosted Flakes and Pepsi. Yum. Not Pepsi in them – milk in them, Pepsi on the side. Enough of this – having to try to think of what to say next, so the exercise must be over. No more multifarious thoughts to record.

As someone pointed out later: more free association than stream of conciousness. Too organized, and too much punctuation.

I thought a long time about that entry title.

Several things that were fixed today:

  1. There was a bug that was causing an error to be generated when typing an anonymous (unsigned note) under some browsers (other than IE). This would cause an error to pop up each time a key was pressed, and was rather annoying.

This has been fixed so you can now type your non-IE, unsigned notes without interruption.

  2. Some people were having trouble with the entry-by-entry notes type setting. Meaning, if their diary was set to default to one thing (like Signed Notes), but they changed the setting to something else for an entry (like All Notes), the default would override the entry setting. Which made it difficult to set the setting on individual entries. This has also been fixed.
  3. Some sort routines on the updated Favorites page were not sorting correctly by update. This caused some recently updated diaries to not move to the top of the list. This has been remedied (bet you thought I was going to say “fixed” again).
  4. Some entries just weren’t updating in the Favorites list – this was mostly due to the old “I saved my entry as Private but then switched it to Public problem”, but substitute Favorites Only where it says Public. Entries written this way were not updating favorites, but now they are.
  5. A couple people noticed that if a new entry appeared on the favorites list, but was then deleted by the author, the link went bad (not bad like old cheese, but bad like it didn’t work). This has also been repaired, so now the favorites list will go back and find the last entry before that one, if it is deleted. If that made any sense.

That’s all for now – back to work.

I think you should write about green stamps. None of the young kids will have a clue what you are talking about and may just go ask their mom what they are. Hell..do you even remember your mom collecting green stamps? We didnt get what we wanted. Mom got a stupid sewing machine. I felt like a brady bunch boy.

mmmmmmmmmmmmm, Pepsi!!! : D

I love your little side box entries. They crack me up. I tend to ignore all the technical stuff. I’m just happy when it works. :o)

This is a good way to use the sidebar! I can use the sidebar, but am short of ideas on what to put in it. Ha! Maybe I’ll do a timed writing exercise every day.

lol, good line: “I thought a long time about naming that entry” I hope you really didn’t tkae THAT much time lol

You should try beer and cheerios. In them.

Is there any way you can make it an option on an individual entry to do public notes? I like having mine private but in some cases I prefer to do public. Maybe I’m being too picky. In which case…That’s fine. I think you’re doing a great job. Keep up the good work!

YAY! I think you addressed every problem I’ve been having lately. Thanks!

um…when ever I try and go straight to opendiary.com it wont work for me…I half to go to opendiary.com/default or something…is this soemthign wrong with my computer or is it an error

Thanks for the fixes, DM! You rock! Hope your Monday is going well 🙂

Hehe, loved your “free association/stream of conciousness”

Hi DM! I just LOVE my diary! Okay, why are some diaries coming up as updated in 1900? That’s what appears for smiling jack_____ (I forget the rest of his name) on my list, though he updated 25 March. Perhaps you already fixed this too? You’re GREAT! ….

All of my favorite diaries read that the latest update was 1-1-1900 and I am just curious what is going on.

ok not to sound rude or anything but it’s really making me mad how sometimes the code to post a pic works and how sometimes it doesn’t could you please fix this so that the pic will work when it’s supposed to and also do you pay any attention to TOD like you do OD? because it needs help to you can’t delete entries there or anything..

I have tried to leave a note on a diary in my favorites and it keep having an error message pop up. I was signed in when I tried and it would not even let me type in the note space.. I finally just typed in a word processor and pasted it in the space, But it would not let me type anything in the area. It would only let me right click without the error message.. Is it a bug?

on the top of the website where it says things like “my diary” “my notes” “my favorites” and so on it says “null” on the very right. what is this?

A chat room for OD wouldn’t that be fun? Still wishing there was a way that I didn’t have to save a copy of every single note I write. I’m not all that thrilled with my own history. Know what I mean?

it was hot today… like 90 degrees… can u fix that? toodles, isabel

My favorites list said that one of my favorites [norna2004] had updated. I clicked on the link under the latest entry column and it took me to an entry from January 18, 2004! And another on of my favorites [Jupiter724] had updated and it didn’t update on my favorites list. Just thought you’d like to know..or something… 😀

I hate that an option for premium payers is to have only the people who are upgraded and paying be able to read their diaries….My two FAVORITE writers, who I have been reading on about for about 4 months, I can no longer read..how sad! ERR!! I wish I could afford it too! LOL jk!

In writing my story of the finding of the Silmaril, it’s handy to know that the Great Jewels have always burned any evil being who touches them. Morgoth possessed the Three until Luthien and Beren took the one and the other two were recovered in the War of Wrath, but the entire time he possessed them, they made him miserable. Similarly, the One Ring burned Isildur’s hand…

If you were speaking in terms of energetics, you would say that energies so unlike each other cannot be compatible with each other – the lower vibrational rate of negative energy – embodied in Morgoth – could not long sustain contact with a physical object of such high vibrational rate of positive energy – the Silmarils. Same with Isildur handling the Ring. Thus it becomes very

significant that Bilbo Baggins and Frodo were largely unaffected by the negative energy embodied in the Ring – although Frodo had a much harder time of it because the Ring, which had its own consciousness, perceived Frodo’s plan, and resisted being carried toward its place of undoing. I liked it that in the movie, PJ showed the excoriations around Frodo’s neck, where the weight of the Ring had

chafed his skin. It’s little touches like that, that make the movies special, IMHO. I haven’t decided what my main character is in terms of the characters in LOTR – I’m leaning toward a great-great-great(many times)-great-granddaughter of Arwen and Aragorn. She has much good luck in her life, and tends to take it for granted… a strong sign that she’s somehow special…

Someone told me to go to your diary to find the code for the box you do in your enteries. I can’t find the code so can you tell me where it is or give it to me thanks. What are you supposed to do with the box once u have it and can u choose which enteries u want it in.

I’m having problems posting pictures in my diary. Is there any way I can get them to work?

I have noticed that on certain diaries, when I am typing a note, the counter doesn’t countdown my characters. It just stays at 400. Not a major problem, but I know you like to stay informed! Thanks for making open diary, I really appreciate it. It helps my husband who goes overseas stay in touch with me, because most of the time he can not use email. *kathryn* GO NAVY!

WHATS RONG WITH THE SERVER?!?! THE TOOLBAR WONT SHOW UP SO I CANT DO ANYTHING!

Hi it’s me again :o) I was just wondering why is it that on my computer, I can’t get the toolbar. I seriously need it to do some things with my diary. Is there any way I can get it?

I was wondering if there was anyway we could clear our note history?? I would really like to- if that would be at all possible 🙂

Hey I noticed going through my diary [I have been here for almost three years now] and I just noticed that ahlf of my entries from the beginning are GONE!!! Is this just how all diaries work because I had a lot of my life in there and it’s just…gone…is this supposed to happen/is there any way I can get it back?

How do you make that niffty text box on the side? Its pretty cool.
