So, this season, I’ve found myself working quite a bit with Ayeka’s dad’s robotics team.

FIRST is a competition organized by Dean Kamen to encourage high school students to get involved in engineering. Every January, they develop a game, and teams have six weeks to build a robot from a kit of parts (and other parts they buy/build) to accomplish the game’s goal. This year’s game involves launching nerf balls through a hoop seven feet off the ground (more like kicking a field-goal than shooting baskets). And we’ve gotten involved, having little else to be doing this winter… though, since my knowledge goes more towards the electronic end, I’ve been more useful with the programming end.

Yesterday was the first and only pre-season “play date” that we compete in, and it could have gone better. Apparently we’re spending much of tomorrow reworking the robot before it ships on Tuesday…

We’ll see how our team does in a month at the regional…
