WordPress isn’t OD, but it works…
One of my most favorite writers here on OD has a blog on WordPress as an alternate toOD. I’ve had a ‘presence’ there since some time last year, but haven’t ever written or posted anything until tonight. http://tehachap.wordpress.com/ It doesn’t hurt to have a backup plan. I have to wonder whether I shouldn’t download all of my back entries to make sure they’re never lost. Perhaps I’ll start doing that tonight. I used to print them out and put them in a 3-ring binder and at the beginning of each new year I would pull last year’s entries out, bind them in some fashion and store them on the shelf in my bookcase. Then one day, for who knows what reason, I shredded several years of diary. Bad, bad, bad. I regretted it as soon as I did it…
I ask myself why I feel this inner need to write. I’m a published writer (no books, mind you, but articles, letters to the editor, columns in newsletters, stuff like that). But I write mainly for myself — It’s the creative process that I enjoy. Writing is a skill and a creative craft. Not everyone can write — I used to think they could, but eventually came to the realization that putting words together that make sense is a unique skill.
So here I am … writing… hoping that my words will bring a moment of pleasure to those who read me. Sometimes I share what’s going on in my life, sometimes I use the space to rant. We’ve had a nice community of writers here on OD. Other sites may allow us to display our words, but they’re not OD. So for now I will write here and copy my message over to WordPress — so that my words and thoughts are never lost.
Be safe, be well and be happy. No matter what you do in life, do it with fervor and commitment.
p.s. Regarding the error in the quilt block I posted earlier–the long yellow piece should have been on the left of the red square on the top row and to the right on the bottom row. My quilting friend, B, came over this afternoon and we compared our blocks — she made the same identical mistake I did — so we’ve decided to keep them as is. We know they’re not right but that’s o.k. because we both made the same mistake. As B says, "Great minds think alike!"
