The Whys and Wherefores of Arizona
Some of you may not have noticed, but I’m been among the missing for 2 months now. We’ve been in Arizona, staying in our ‘retirement’ home in Roadhaven Resort, in Apache Junction, AZ. We’ve always just gone over to spend Thanksgiving with the in-laws, stayed a couple of days and came back home. We stayed in a motel those times, and it cost us a few hundred dollars every time we went. We’ve co-owned the place in Roadhaven since 1994, but never really had the opportunity to actually live there until now because the in-laws were using it. I’ve looked forward to spending more time there, to take advantage of the activities and clubs that are there in the park. We initially went in on the place so the in-laws would have a comfortable place to spend their winters, knowing that eventually, it would become ours to live in during the winter months. We lived in San Diego and our weather was mild. Now we live in Tehachapi and the winters are a tad cold — not as cold as it gets in some parts of the country, but cold, nonetheless.
The park has all kinds of clubs — I joined the Computer Club and the Creative Crafts Club. I discovered that using the computers in the computer club room obligated me to be a monitor and to be there for a minimum of one hour each time I was there. That didn’t work out all that well for me so I limited the number of times I signed into the computer room. Our laptop computer is old and it wouldn’t connect with the internet even when I connected it to an Ethernet cable. Soooo, a new laptop computer is the plan for some time this year. I worked in the Creative Crafts room 2 out of 3 days. I made a lap quilt for myself, made no less than 7 Cathedral Sweatshirts and taught a class on the Cathedral Sweatshirt. I’ve been asked to teach the class again the next time we come to the park. We’ll be going back in April for a week or so and I don’t know if I’ll teach a class then or wait until the Fall of 2013.
We truly enjoyed our time there at Roadhaven. We knew many of the people in the park because we’d visited there so many times. This time, we were able to spend some quality time with people and when it came time to say goodbye, they came to us and told us how much they enjoyed having us as neighbors. They even gave us a going away party, even though we’d told them we would be coming back again.
I took a few photos while we were there and I’ll share them in the next few entries. It was an enjoyable time and we look forward to staying there again.
I’ve just finished reading "Proof of Heaven" by Eben Alexander. I highly recommend it. I’m thinking about buying a copy to add to my metaphysical library. Amazing is all I can say at this point.
Be safe, be well and please be happy. Know that you are loved. Be sure to tell those you love that you love them. We all need to hear it every now and then.
We were in Mesa for a week last christmas and we heard about Apache Junction. We didn’t have enough courage to drive over there, though.

You are so awesome to read all those entries and note them! You know great it is to open up your diary and see notes? As I’ve been plugging away writing notes for social studies 11 I login to OD to read notes. You’ve kept my energy level sustained for a long time.

Welcome back, each time you cross my mind, I would smile and send up a wee prayer that you all were well, happy and so on. Glad you made an entry so I can picture you in the new setting just as busy and fulfilled as you always seem to be.

Thank you so much for your prayers and words of comfort. I had been wanting to read Proof of Heaven but just put it off. I am going to order it now.

I’ve just been told about Proof of Heaven and plan to read it. Sounds like you’ve made some good planning towards a future in a warmer place. Ryn: thank you for the info about Hanes soft socks. I’ve been buying woollen ones when I see them. Hanes will be worth a try.
