Rants on a Peaceful Day
This has been such a gorgeous, peace-filled day, except that starting about 15 min. ago, the kids (adults??) on their dirt bikes and ATC’s started riding in the valley below our house and the noise just kills the quiet. When we first moved into the house and heard them for the first time, we called the Sheriff’s office and the deputy came out — took 3 tries until he finally found our house (I’d hate to think that we might have had a real emergency going on). He came out to the deck and spotted the riders, but said he couldn’t do anything about them because by the time he got to where they were now, they’d be gone. So much for notifying the Sheriff about illegal trespass. <sigh>
We at least have got them stopped from coming all the way up the hill and into our yard. The wall helped put a stop to that invasion, but we can still hear them as the hiking trail runs along the creekbed, which runs all along the base of our hillside. The hiking trail is supposed to only be for hiking, walking the dogs and equestrians, but it’s wide enough for vehicles in most places, (and where it isn’t wide enough, they drive off the road), so we spot vehicles in pairs driving down to the middle of the valley at night. No telling what’s going on there… don’t want to know, either!
But off to more pleasant reporting, I have the first map quilt pretty much finished except for the border. The fabric got tweaked a bit in the quilting, but it’s o.k. I’m alright with a bit of pucker here and there. It makes it home made looking, and it is that, if nothing else. I have the second map quilt top laid out and am pinning the border on. It’s next, and I just might get to it tonight. I also have my block to make for the quilt guild–can’t forget that one. It’s big and looks a bit complex, so have to work on it before too much longer. I don’t want to leave it for the last minute.
Gots to get back at it so will close with blessings to all… I have a dear friend who has been in ICU for going on 30 days now — she suffered a perforated colon and the infection went into her abdomen. She was finally well enough to be transferred to UCLA medical center recently, but is still in ICU there… Please keep her in your thoughts … CS are her initials… but God and the universe knows who she is.
Be safe, be well and please be happy. Be sure to tell those you love that you love them. Be kind to others — we are all in this together, but some of us need a bit of help now and again.
Thank you for the notes! I looked into my note history and I sent you a few notes back in 2009 so we have kind of waved at each other in the past. I hope your friend continues to improve. She must be in a lot of pain. The novel I just read, “Wild”, mentions Tehachipi along the California part of the Pacific Crest Trail.

ATV’s running a muck in the early morning would really irritate me. When we lived in downtown OB, the skate boarders at the bus stop in front of our house at 11pm used to drive me nuts, so I would go out onto the front deck and toss kitty litter onto the sidewalk to mess with their wheels.

I like Geezer’s solution! Hope you don’t have any more problems with them on this holiday!

Hugs to you, and you bet I will pray for your friend. Yes, we had a ball at the bay. The little string things are bracelets made deep in Mexico by little kids using embroidery threads. All they want is two bucks, and just seeing them breaks my heart.

That must be so frustrating, that they won’t do anything about the hoons. I hope your friend makes a full recovery.
