Living and Learning the Hard Way

You would think that a strip of fabric 5" wide  x 27" long and cut vertically into 2.5" pieces would be the same as taking that same 5" x 27" piece of fabric, cutting it horizontally in half (two-2.5" pieces 27" in length) and then cutting each half into six-4.5" pieces would be the same. Nope. Live and learn. Better yet, next time I’ll take a very, very close look at the directions. It doesn’t SAY how to cut the fabric, but there’s a little diagram that shows the strip of fabric with the desired 12 pieces cut. Interesting — disappointing — frustrating. I think I might be in line behind Georgette in thinking that my math is not up to snuff for quilting. I signed up for this Block of the Month club because I knew it was going to be a challenge. I forgot that sometimes a challenge can be just wasted time, and needless to say, fabric!! .Ah well… I’ve put in a call to the block moderator for extra fabric. I don’t know that she has any to spare, but one can hope. Meanwhile, I’m working at cutting the fabric from my stash that goes along with the Quilt Guild’s fabric. (And I think I’ve cut IT wrong as well, but I think I have enough extra to be able to cover my "assumptions."

We shall see…we shall see…

Blessings to all — be safe, be well, and please be happy. Be sure to tell those you love that you love them!!!!

I knew there was a reason why I don’t quilt! I am horrible at math. RYN/ Jason might be able to get her charged with libel/slander but he doesn’t have any proof. And he would be charging his daughter, his kids mother and their grandmother. She has the oldest and the youngest child so brain washed against their father already that this would be the end of any relationship he would ever have with them. The middle son has been able to see through his mother and is fairly close to Jason. Jason doesn’t want to do anything to harm that relationship.

Oh dear, I am not good with directions still and I have been quilting since 1999…. If the cutting is critical, I rewrite the instructions so I understand them… Especially I figure out how many squares what size I need, how many I can get out of a strip cut the proper width for the squares I want to end up with, then I just cut. I really have to boil the math down to the basics! I need 54 2.5×2.5″ squares, I cut 2.5″ strips and then cut them 2.5. Too many people who write instructions don’t think like I do, so I ‘translate’, write it down my way, and then double check the diagrams.

You can always add strips around the outside to bring the block up to the standard size. I found that trick very useful. LOL
